my mom is reallyinto crafting so when i was younger she would take me craft classes at a local hobby shop every wednesday(i was the youngest member lol) with her.

crocheting - my mom taught me
cross stitching - picked up on my own, fairly young(like 12)
knitting - just took a class last month to learn
scrapbooking/card making - picked up on my own
sewing - just starting to learn how to use my sewing machine, first project was a blanket, pillow and pillow case for my nephew...turned out pretty good if i do say so myself
spinning - DH introduced me to spin classes and i love them, want to start going again and go for bike rides(next summer)
general crafts in general i like to do...and my interest has been peaked thanks to pinterest! :o)

@pastemoo: I started drawing and painting just from looking at my disney books and copying them when I was younger, and it kind of went from there in copying different things. Eventually I started taking classes though. Things like cross stitching I would just buy a kit and read the directions. Most crafting for me is just trial and error I guess :)

@artbee: From books, classes, youtube, trial and error?
@Coco Bee: Reading is a hobby and I totally got that from my mom. :)
Mmm digital scrapbooking! I made our wedding album and I would make another but I'm not sure what I would even put in it. I'm not good at the "extras" I just stick photos in.
@stargal: Aww. My grandfather told me "I don't know if you want to write but if you want to write, write!" It is very hard for writers to let themselves write.

I have some but I don't keep up on them very well.

I am really into DIY I love making things, just for the sake of making it sometimes. I made a number of things for DS or our home.

I love scrapbooking, but now with digital scrapbooks it's sooo much cheaper, I actually do spend a fair amount of time trying to keep up with digital scrapbooks. I try to make DS's as he grows but I'm pretty far behind. I picked up paper scrapbooking from my mom. She used to own one of those scrapbooking businesses when I was a kid.

Working out - definitely something I picked up on my own. My family wasn't "lazy" but we never did physical activities together.

Volleyball - another of my own hobbies! But I haven't played in awhile. When I lived in NY our group of friends play v-ball every Monday. Here I have no friends, or don't have the opportunity. There is community league v-ball, but it's in the evening when DH works so I don't know what to do with DS.

Blogging - this has transitioned from writing in general. I've always loved English and writing. I still would love to have some children's books published. I have so any crazy ideas in my head, I just need to get started in them.

Is reading a hobby? I like to read. But I don't nearly as much anymore. But I have noticed how I view it as "me" time. So I just browsed the Random House Recommended books board on pinterest and put a bunch on hold! I have on waiting at the library right now!

I've only read parenting and baby books for the last year (save The Hunger Games) - it'll be nice to take a break!

Most of my hobbies were self taught. Painting, cross stitching, crafting, anything artsy really.

Baking I got from my mom and grandma though.

@pastemoo: we learned a bunch together. We took a night class where we did the cake decorating, and we took turns making the cakes & frosting we had to bring in each week. She just got a new kiln, so I might do more pottery with her soon. I love that now we are really good friends!

@mrs. bird: Oh, I want to take a cooking class, too. And stained glass! That is so cool that you learned all those hobbies from your mom. :)

I need a new hobby!

Cake decorating- I took a course with my mom
Pottery- another hobby with my mom, she's kind of awesome : )
Photography- took a class when I was younger & liked it, so I took more in college, but it was all film, so now I'm lost!
Couponing (yes, it can be a hobby!)- came out of necessity when DH lost a job & I went part time at work. Now I just can't stand to spend money on things I don't need to!
Former hobby was working out with DH- he was my trainer, 'nuf said ;)

I've had others, but I think those have been my favorites. I'd like to taking a cooking class, a digital photography class, and stained glass making! Hobbies are most fun for me when I have someone else to enjoy them with.

I have quite a few hobbies, most taught to me by family members.
The only hobbies I came to in my own right were dancing (modern and social dancing), running, and jewelry making.
I picked them up through a program at school, a bad breakup, and from books and looking at other jewelry.

I love photography--my dad taught me.
I am fairly good at knitting (but haven't taken on a project in a long time!)--my grandmother taught me.
I want to start to crochet again--my other grandma taught me but she passed away before I really figured it out.
I love rock climbing--my best friend in grad school needed a climbing buddy.
I love running--I found this one on my own.

How did you find your hobbies? (And what are they?)
How did you get better at them when your reason for finding them went away?
