@lamariniere: we started training awhile ago. I'm wondering if he just wasn't ready and we started too early.

He still has occasional accidents at nap time. Also, he became a big brother in December, so I'm thinking the little regression has to do with that.

My son will just pooped in his underwear when we went cold turkey. He just turned 3 last week and is pee trained, though still wears a diaper at night because he doesn't wake up. We tried putting him on the potty when we knew he was pooping, but that just resulted in him holding it all day and then later complaining his tummy hurt. I'm not forcing it for now. He wears pull-ups so that we're not ruining underwear and we'll just keep trying to coax him to poop on the potty. I'm happier with that than I am with him holding and hurting himself.

my daughter would cry and bring me a diaper for twosies too. The first couple of weeks I was nervous about naps and overnights so she wore a cloth diaper. then I realized that we just needed to go cold turkey. I put her in undies, she HATED the feeling of the accident she had in her undies and that was all it took. It did take some coaxing and lots of praise and patience for her to use her potty for twos, but she got it. I think you may have to go cold turkey and ditch the diapers. We would wake her a few hours after she went to sleep to walk her to the bathroom for one last pee before we went to bed. Sometimes carrying her if she was too tired. We did this for a few months. Just our experience, may be worth mulling over these ideas too. Every kiddo is different, trust your gut and just go with what feels right

same issue :-( we pee trained this past weekend and she was doing great at home (not sure how she'll do in daycare, i don't think it got off to a great start :-( ) but shes definitely holding her poop and she won't let it out because shes afraid of having an accident. i even offer diapers to poop but she doesn't want to wear it! she does wear pull ups at night and has let it out then. i just wish she wasn't trying to hold it in. :-(

We have the same problem because he doesn't want to go #2 in the toilet at all. I don't want to force him because I've seen regressions happen if they're pushed before they're ready, so I've told him that if he's more comfortable, tell me when he has to poop and I'll put him in a diaper. It seems to be working so far. I hate changing those diapers still but I really don't want to push him into something he's not ready for. He turned 3 at the end of Feb.

How long ago did you start training? We trained my son at 2.5 and it took him 2 weeks before he would poo in the toilet. He would also wait for his nighttime diaper. He eventually got it on his own though, but he would only poo on the toilet and not the little potty chair.

@wonderstruck: he wakes pretty wet, so I don't think getting rid of the nighttime diaper would work. I'm a little worried about him holding it too, but when he does go, his poop is soft and normal.

We're not potty training yet, but I've been looking into it lately and have read several times that it can eventually cause physical damage to the child's bowels to hold in poop like that! definitely important to get him to stop that, but I wish I had advice on how to do so! Does he still pee at night in the diaper? Or just poop? What do you think would happen if you stopped with the nighttime diaper?

Potty training question! My 3 yr old wears undies during the day and diapers at night. He pees on the potty but doesn't want to poop and will hold it until it literally starts coming out, then he'll sit on the potty and let it go (not a full poop, but enough where he feels better). Anyway, lately he's been holding his poop all day just so he can go in his diaper at night. Any advice or suggestions??
