I don't think as a kid, I ever made sand tunnels. They dig huge holes….like as tall/taller than my 6’4” husband. Last year one of them caved in while one of the cousins was in there. It was terrifying! If you put too much weight on the chest, the person can have difficulty breathing and worse, if no one is around, they may not be able to get out. I actually know to be really careful about this. Growing up in Mass we used to always build holes and things in the snow. But my mom would never let us building anything that we would crawl or sit under because it can collapse and trap you. Holes fill, but a collapsing tunnel has more weight to it. Its so incredibly sad. I mean, all kids dig holes at the beach, who would have thought??
