We live 2.5 hrs from my parents and 5 minutes from my in-laws. We usually do Thanksgiving with my in-laws, do christmas eve with one family and christmas day with the other. I was dreading having the conversation about the holidays w/my mom b/c I'm due Jan. 25 - and wasn't sure if I would really feel up to traveling then. I was just talking to her though, about doing my baby shower the saturday after Thanksgiving and she said, well, you can't come home for Christmas - or you most likely won't be comfortable doing it - and that's OK. It's kind of a bummer to hear her say that but it's also a big relief that I'm not expected to make christmas travel happen.

Thanksgiving we always go to my parent's house.

This will actually be the first Christmas my husband and I will celebrate together - in 6 years together! My family is 45 minutes away, while his is an 8 hour plane ride away and now that we have LO we told everyone we will be having Christmas at our place from now on....anyone who wants to join is more than welcome!!

I am most excited about starting holiday traditions with our nuclear family this year. I secretly wish that it would be just the 3 of us since I don't want the stress of planning the party, but alas, with both our families the way they are, it will most likely be a party at our house and the in-laws will stay for a week or so since they're from out of state.

I love big family get-togethers for the holidays ,but I'm not ready to entertain yet!

In the past, we have alternated one year with my family and the next with DH's. We're not travelling this year because I'm due on 12/21. Not sure what everyone else will do. I'm sure everyone will want to see the baby (assuming I've given birth by then), but we have a small apartment- there is barely room to add our 2-foot-tall fake Christmas tree, so I'm not sure where any guests expect to fit!

We alternate Thanksgiving - every other year is with my family out in Michigan, and the other years we are with Hubs' family at home (Central PA). For Christmas, we always would spend Christmas Eve with my mom and step-dad, then go to my dad's and spend Christmas Day with him. Then the day after Christmas we spend with Hubs' family. I always said that once we have kids we are NOT doing that - it is too much running around and I could not imagine hauling baby and gear in and out of the car that many times. This year, I will be 37 weeks pregnant and therefore not allowed to travel, so we will be spending Christmas. Probably my dad, sister, and brother-in-law will come down Christmas Eve/Day. We will do Christmas with Hubs' family earlier in the month. We are hoping this will set a new precedent for the years to come.

Both his parents and my parents live overseas (hence my little sister coming to our house instead of parents).

We will celebrate Thanksgiving with my husband's family the Saturday prior, Nov 17th and spend Thanksgiving day with my family, including some out of state family members what will be visiting. We may see my inlaws Thanksgiving evening, depending on if we need them to watch our daughter while we shop on Black Friday! For Christmas we do our little home Christmas the Saturday before, spend the night before Christmas Eve at my in-laws- stay there until about 2pm and then head over to my grandma's house where we'll stay the night and have Christmas day with my family.

We both have divorced parents so we normally celebrate 6, yes 6, Christmases each year- usually hosting one or two. This year I am due Christmas Eve so we will be staying at our home and anyone wanting to travel to us is welcome to come.

Thanksgiving we have usually stayed home and celebrated as our small family other wise we get to burnt out by the ed of the holiday celebrations, I am not 100% sure what we will decide this year. DD always helps me make a trukey so we will be home at least for lunch.

ETA: We always spend the night at our house Christmas Eve, this is nonegotiable with all the running we do. Our kids wake up in their beds on Christmas morning and have time to open their presents.

Baby is due to arrive in the beginning of December, so we don't plan on traveling on Thanksgiving like we normally do. We may host dinner at our new house instead.

Christmas will be the usual round of madness. We have an afternoon party with my family, a church service, and present opening with DH's family until ridiculous hours on Christmas Eve. I expect we'll also be forced to play Mary and Joseph at the Christmas Eve service, haha! There's also a party on Boxing Day. Christmas day we'll hopefully spend at home!

My cousin is getting married Thanksgiving weekend in California so my whole family is going to skip T-Day for the wedding, but I'll be too pregnant to fly so DH and I will have our first solo Thanksgiving. I'm due two weeks after Christmas so we're staying put this year. Last year we travelled too much (drove from Canada to Florida and back in 9 days) so I'm glad to celebrate at home this time.

We switch Thanksgiving and Christmas every year with each of our families. This year, it's Thanksgiving with mine and Christmas with DH's fam. I'm super excited about Christmas because instead of going to my in-laws house, we are all heading to a condo in Santa Fe. The only bummer is that I can ski since I'm pg, but I still cannot wait!

Holiday's are always stressful for us, it is the only hardpart of both of our families within close distance, we want to hit every place, but doing so make us so tired, so we have decided 2 a day is all we can handle (especially with a newborn this year.)

Thanksgiving: lunch with DH's dad's side of the family, j& dinner wtih my immediate family.

First Saturday of December: celebrate Thanksgiving/Christmas with DH's mom's side of the family. this is new since his grandmother passed away, they decided one holiday instead of two. Makes it nice for us!

Second Sunday of December: celebrate Thanksgiving/Christmas with my mom's side of the family. This has been so nice, they changed it a couple years ago so family can stick around and socialize and relax more than on the actual day!

Christmas Eve: Day with DH's immediate family & Evening with my immediate family (stay at my parent's house.)

Christmas Day: lunch with my dad's side of the family & afernoon with DH's dad side.

With our families on 3 different continents, it's always hard making Christmas plans.
Neither of us are American, so we don't usually celebrate Thanksgiving but we use the time off from work to visit either my family or his.

Originally we were going to spend Christmas with my family in London this year, and then go to Paris for NYE.
Surprise bfp changed those plans!

I'm due 12-12-12, so baby will be approx 2 weeks old at Christmas. Our plan is just to stay here, and anyone is welcome to join us.
His mom will probably host something at her house Christmas Eve (the day Peruvians celebrate) and my mom will probably host something at my house on Christmas Day (so I don't have to cook)
Currently my mom, his dad and my dad are all planning to fly in for the birth!

We live a plane ride away from our families (who live about 25 minutes away from each other). It's too expensive and not possible with work to travel for both holidays so we do Thanksgiving in town with friends and then fly home for Christmas (where we bounce around from house to house which honestly is exhausting and stressful). This year our baby is due three days after Thanksgiving. We will still go to our friend's house on Thanksgiving if I haven't had the baby yet. And then for Christmas my parents and aunt are flying to see us. My ILs will probably come the following week for New Year's since they are teacher's and have more time off.

We got married last year the weekend after Thanksgiving, so we were able to have Thanksgiving with my family who were up for the wedding. We then had Christmas with the in-laws. My Dad may come up again for Thanksgiving this year. We will not be travelling for Christmas since it's LO's first. We want to have Christmas morning as a family;just the three of us. I would like to carry on the tradition of a big Christmas breakfast. My Dad always made pain perdue (french toast). Then, we might go to the in-laws for Christmas Dinner. I am SO excited for the holidays this year, but she'll only be 7 months at Christmas, so not sure she'll really be into it!

But I wish all our family was closer that we can see them every year for every holiday. I hate to miss any holidays because of our nieces and nephews.

The holidays are tough for us. His parents moved really far away from all of the family, so if they don't come visit, we can't see them. My family thinks that means they have full rights to all holidays. While I like the idea of doing all holidays with my family, I have to take my husband's feelings into consideration.

I think we will try to have a local friend thanksgiving, if anyone is around. If not, we will have it just the three of us. We're doing Christmas at my parents the weekend before Christmas since I used up all of my PTO and wont have any time off around the day. Christmas is on a Tuesday this year and that's all we get off at work. We will do a Christmas with just the three of us on Tuesday, Christmas Day.

This year will be unique since my due date is the day after Thanksgiving. We are just going to have to play everything by ear since making plans is pretty futile around a newborn. We usually host Thanksgiving ourselves and do Xmas with his family 4 hours away ( I'm Jewish so that part is pretty easy) I expect we will be home for both big holidays this year, though. And people can come to us if they want.

We still travel every other year for Christmas, it's just not possible for everyone to come to us when we have family on two continents. So, this year, depending on where we are, we will have it at home. I would like to do a tree, we didn't the year LO was born because he was 2 weeks old and last year we were away. I plan to use toys as ornaments, that's the only part I have sorted out.

Thanksgiving breakfast is always spent at my parents house. We do the turkey trot and then my mom has a big brunch, that's our tradition. Luckily our parents live close to us so we can go to both houses, and we do the traditional dinner at DH's parent's house.

We're Jewish, so Chanukah is easy. We have 8 days to celebrate, so we will have plenty of time to make it to all of the family and celebrate by ourselves as a family. We'll light the candles every night and give LO little gifts every night.

Growing up we always spent Christmas at a theme park because it's not very crowded, so I think we'll do the same thing now that LO is going to be old enough to kind of enjoy it this year. And then of course Chinese for dinner :)

Usually we do thanksgiving with my fam and Christmas on our own (unless the in laws come into town). This year we aren't going anywhere since I'm due on 12/23!

Once LO arrived, we told both sides of the family that we would be doing Christmas at home for a while (plus its cheaper for us this way). Anyone that wants to come visit/join is welcome to. We love it!

Now that someone else has started threads about the holidays I feel comfortable doing so too!

What are your plans for this holiday season? Especially now that you have a LO?

Prior to M we always alternated holidays. ie Thanksgiving with ILs and Xmas with mine one year. Then next year will be Thanksgiving with mine then Xmas with ILs. This year is suppose to be Thanksgiving with mine and Xmas with ILs. But since they live in GA and it's M first Christmas and our first in our new home we've decided we're staying home for Christmas! YAY! We'll invite everyone to come join us of course.

Haven't decided yet if we're traveling to NYC for Thanksgiving though. I hope so.

And we'll be getting our first ever Christmas tree!!! I wanted to wait till our LO's first Christmas to get our first Christmas tree. Before that we had my husband's maternal grandma's "Charlie Brown" tree. We still have it, I love that thing!

Can't wait to start our own holiday traditions with our LO in our new home!! We even have a wood burning fireplace!! hehe
