The Snowy Day (on Amazon) is super-sweet. It is more overtly Christmas-y than the book, but as I remember, doesn't mention Santa at all.

DS is 5.5 and loves Elf and Home Alone. Elf hasn’t made him question anything. He doesn’t get everything in the movie but finds it funny.

The Snowman doesn't reference Santa at all but it's totally wonderful and on Amazon Prime. Otherwise we basically stick to the classic Grinch/Rudolph/Frosty trilogy. The Paw Patrol Christmas special is a big hit in our house.

My son loves the Mickey Christmas special, there is another Disney one with sing along songs, and to there's also "Super Why" xmas special he likes.

If you are cool with the actual Christmas story, we just watched the Star on Netflix and really liked it.

@Foodnerd81: I'm not sure - Common Sense Media (which I know can sometimes be overly conservative) has Polar Express, at least the movie version, on it's "Santa Spoiler Alert" list because no one in the family believes the boy about the bell...I need to review the book/watch the last 10 minutes of the movie to make sure that can be explained away as "they didn't believe the boy could go to the North Pole one night while they were sleeping", not that they didn't believe him because they also don't believe in Santa.

@mrsbookworm: Thanks! More searching on my part has me thinking that we might just stick to some "Holiday Special" episodes of shows they like - I think there's an Olivia one as well.

@HappyBaker: When I read books from this time frame (90's, like the Babysitter's Little Sister) with my 6 year old, I'm always a bit surprised by rudeness of some of the language! I think my 4 year old may like Home Alone, and my 6 year old will not sleep for days, haha.

Regarding "Elf" and real Santa vs. Santa helpers...I'm with you! I'm fine with them realizing that not every "Santa" they see is the real deal, but I totally don't want to have an in depth discussion about it for fear of it taking a wrong turn....and the Elf store Santa, if I remember correctly, is really surly, so I don't want the takeaway for them to be that Santa's helpers hate their jobs! :) I don't know, kids fixate on weird things.

@LadyDi: @Beehive: I'm not very familiar with these titles, but I'm seeing them come up in other searches too, so I may need to give them a try. Thanks!

@pinkb: Thanks for letting me know they were okay with it! I love The Santa Clause, but probably need to watch it again with DH so I can kind of plan for some of the questions that we may need to dodge! :)

@Mrsbells: Thank you! I'm overly sensitive, but I feel like at this age, I'm nervous to even put the idea that someone might not believe in Santa in their heads. I'm not sure that the possibility has even occurred to them, haha. Have you watched it with kids recently? I feel like I need to hear peoples' kids' "real life" reactions, haha. :) :)

@smuckers: Oooh Jim Carey Grinch might be good - my kids have such a Grinch love-hate relationship....my 4 year old really likes him but is equally terrified of him. That is a fun Santa Clause fact! :) I also love Elf, so I need to re-watch it to see what I think about it for my kids. I remember a lot of really grumpy people who aren't very nice to their family, but also that it was hilarious! I'm not sure my kids would get all the humor which is why I should preview it.

The Curious George Christmas movie is good for that age group. It’s only a little over an hour but doesn’t focus on Santa at all.

The Snowman? I don't remember it very well, but it's on Netflix or Amazon Prime, and I think it might be a classic. I'm going to try it out with my two.

Ugh I didn't realize how many movies cast doubt / raise more questions about Santa until this year! We let them watch Elf because we thought they would love it, but it made them 100% realize any Santa they meet in the mall or at an event is a fake. Which is fine, they just think "real Santa" is too busy to be doing those jobs, but hard because other kids in lines for stuff like that think they are seeing the real thing!

We also let them watch Home Alone and that one was REALLY bad with the language / how they speak so meanly to each other in the family, we almost turned it off! They loved the physical humor but my husband and I were cringing through a lot of it.

I think even the ones that cast doubt on santa eventually end with santa being real. Miracle on 34th st is a good one like that

I think Elf is amazing :) Also, the Jim Carey Grinch movie is SO SO GOOD.

Fun fact about The Santa Clause: the little boy who played his son TOTALLY believed in Santa while filming, and thought they were filming a bio-pic about how the current Santa got the job

I haven't found one yet. But we did recently watch The Santa Clause, and my little Santa Believers loved it. (6yr and 3.5) Even though it does show the doubt people have it ultimately shows that he is real, and that it is about believing. Still made me nervous though to show them.

The other night DH and I were trying to come up with a fun holiday movie for our girls to watch while we got some things done around the house....and as we thought about it, we kept striking out. So many holiday themed movies cast doubt on the existence of Santa - kids who don't believe, adults who scorn kids who believe, Santa dying (The Santa Clause)....other than animated classics like Rudolph, Frosty, and the Grinch, I'm wondering what is "safe" for my 4 and 6 year old daughters! Currently both believe strongly in all the "magic" aspects of the holiday season, and I don't want to throw a wrench in that, particularly because they also have a two year old sister and I worry the years of everyone being on the same page are going to be few!

I know there are lots of Hallmark-ish movies on Netflix (Santa Paws, etc.) geared at the younger set, but I haven't had time to dig deeper into the actual content - I'm hoping someone has seen a few they can recommend.
