The Cafe on the 2FL of MOMA is awesome, so isn't Burdick's for hot chocolate at http://www.burdickchocolate.com/stores-and-cafes-nyc.aspx

Just stay away from Times Square as much as possible-- way too crowded. The tree at Rockefeller Center is great but will also be insanely crowded.
Otherwise these suggestions are better than I could come up with.

@dagret: If you go to Shake Shack, get the Shack Stack...I think it's the best burger I've ever had! DH and I still talk about it and salivate, but since we live in TX it would be hard to go get one very often.

Oh yeah...Shake shack is yummmy. I'll second that. The Rockette's Christmas Spectacular is happening right now too, and sometimes you can get the discounted tickets at the TKTS booth. I always loved the Rockettes when I was younger.

I do like the Bryant park market, so it's good that you're doing that. Yelp reviews aren't great, but I actually really like Max Brenner for desserts that are huge and fun. You could visit my favorite chocolate shop, Vosges (there are two locations). If you want to try something "different" and like spicy food, you should go to Sigiri or Banana Leaf for sri lankan cuisine (get the hoppers, the chicken curry, and the cutlets for an appetizer). My favorite cookies in NYC are definitely at Levain. They are much better than any of the desserts at Momofuku (in my opinion).

For things to do....depends on how touristy you want to get. Looking at all the holiday windows at the major department stores is fun. Going on a hunt for the best hot chocolate in the city could be fun (use yelp).

Eat dim sum for sunday brunch....mmmm. There are several places to choose from (use Yelp). Even though the reviews are so-so, I still like Jing Fong because now they have the order-from-the-menu dim sum as well as the carts, so you don't have to wait till the cart comes by with your favorites.

If you haven't done it yet, walking the brooklyn bridge is always fun, even in winter. Plus then you can get a waffle from the Waffles and Dinges cart right at the end of the bridge on the NYC side.

I'm sure I'll think of more later....

So I'm headed to New York this weekend for a work-related event. I'll be in town Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon/early evening. We're staying in midtown Manhattan and have things planned for Friday lunch and Saturday from 12-4.

Any suggestions for good holiday-related (or not!) New York must-sees or restaurants? Ones that aren't super-overrun by tourists. (We eat everything and like to try new stuff). And I'm pregnant so I'm not so much into the boozing these days, unfortunately.

We did hit up the Bryant Park Christmas market last year - we'll probably do that again.
