Oh yes. My mom is visiting and she's obsessed with DS's sleep. "You're spoiling him by letting him sleep in your bed. He wakes up more because he's using you as a pacifier. Don't talk to him at all when you're putting him to sleep. He's taking advantage of you. He's not hungry, he wants to play instead of drink his bottle. He didn't nap well....so let's go out to the store with him." :bummed:

@Foodnerd81: Ugh that's terrible :( does she have colic? I know so many parents who had colicky babies for 6 weeks+! They said the baby would literally just cry and cry, occasionally sleep or eat, but every waking moment was crying. They said it was miserable :( I couldn't imagine. Hugs to you. It's not easy. But you're doing a great job.

@renee0106: nothing irritates me more than people pretty much saying we only think we have a difficult baby, and basically are just unprepared or overreacting to regular newborn stuff. No. Being woken up to feed a hungry baby multiple times a night is expected. Crying sometimes is expected. Having your newborn scream herself horse while you do everything you can think of from 11-4 am is not normal! So please, just because she seems very mellow right now do not think we are just exaggerating when we say it was a bad f-ing night.

End rant. Luckily my pediatrician believed me and helped me through it!

After DS had been fussy and crying the entire day and would only settle down if I held him, my Grandpa made the comment to me that I just don't understand how good of a baby DS is and it must be all in my head.

My kids are sick all of the time because I don't make them wear shoes indoors.

And my older doesn't have seasonal/outdoor allergies - she just doesn't get enough outdoor time.

And I should let my 4 yo watch medical dramas, it's REAL life. Who needs Disney?

My grandfather commented at LEAST 10 times that LO would be happier with her feet uncovered. She always wears footie pants/sleepers or socks, because she runs cold and gets cold feet. More importantly, she likes fabric more than anything in the world right now (diaper changes have gotten interesting with her grabbing our sleeves and trying to eat them) so she loves having her feet covered so she can pull the fabric and put it in her mouth.

He also very angrily told her to stop fussing at him (he was up in her face, which she didn't appreciate from a virtual stranger) or he'd spank her. If she'd been old enough to understand it would have been scary. As it was I was holding her so I yanked her away and got my back to him to keep him away. You are not threatening to hit my infant!

FIL deliberately had her watching tv (she's 6mo, so we don't allow screentime yet). And when she was fussy he told her to stop because he didn't care and wasn't going to do anything about it. Again, 6 months old. Fussing is how she communicates. But good to have reinforcement that you won't be babysitting.

@littlebug: OMG, this is my MIL - she is the biggest helicopter grandparent. If LO coughs even *a little* while eating, MIL starts literally shouting/screaming that LO is choking. She does this at home and when we're out eating. Of course, LO thinks it's beyond hilarious so she will purposefully cough while she eats to set MIL off. MIL also insists on still cutting up all of LO's food into minuscule pieces and feeding them to LO.......who is 3.5 years old.

So, I feel ya.

I say "Grandma, she wants to show you her new skills, she can do it by herself." She doesn't listen. When she sees us let her go by herself, she half scolds us and tells us she's so worried DD will get hurt. Well lady, get over it. We are with her MUCH more than you, I think we got this.

@SweetCaroline: my mom does the same thing and it drives me crazy!!! For 1.5 years DS has bee waking up at 5am. Every time we sleep over she makes a BIG deal over how EARLY he gets up and starts giving us all these "tips" on how to get him to sleep in. It's exhausting and stressful to listen to especially since we've already tried everything and none of it works. I just wish she would give it a rest for once since she isn't the one who has to get up with him!!!

Just random name comment from SIL. My son has a different name, but a family name and not made up at all, it's just not common and people (ie old people in our family) pronounce it wrong.
I said something like "I promise this child will have a bit more common name" referring to the one in my uterus. She says "you say that now, but it won't" and also she suggested we name it my sons middle name (also an uncommon family name). And then for a girl she suggested willow, which she told me when I was pregnant with my son she hated that name. She's a weirdo.

Re: my current 35w pregnant state:
Are you sure there's only one in there?
Wow, you look so much bigger than I did at that stage.
How are you even still standing?
You MUST be miserable.
You're definitely going early. Your due date is wrong.

And my ILs seem to think that D is incapable of doing anything for himself. He's 3 and my MIL was airplane-feeding him at lunch yesterday because he didn't want to eat her over-cooked turkey. So then he threw an even bigger fit and I had to excuse myself and him to calm him down, and as we walked out I heard her say, "Oh well, i guess mommy allows that at home." They absolutely would not let him walk down the stairs on his own, even though I told them a hundred times he does it all day at or house.
