Oy I keep thinking about these but between work, sick kids, preparing for baby’s arrival and a January birthday I am spent. I focus on friends first and then will do family last.

We don’t do these. Never did growing up and have never revived one either!

I'm hot and cold with them. I was raise you can't play with the toy until you write the thank you note but the kids aren't old enough to write their own yet. My mom doesn't even send them half the time anymore.

I try to intentionally thank individuals at Christmas or send them a thank you text with a picture of the kids using whatever they sent. For my grandparents I definitely send thank yous cards because that's their generation's thing.

I send handwritten thank you notes for all birthday gifts (DS "signs" his name now that he is 4 yo). I honestly had not thought about sending them for Christmas gifts since we open a majority of them in front of the giver and thank them in real time. I also text them photos of the boys using/wearing gifts as an additional thank you to show how they are being enjoyed.

I don’t really write holiday thank yous. I did have my 6 year old write a couple to people who sent her a lot but mostly I text saying thank you (a lot of long distance family sent gifts). For birthdays I try to push her to write more- like @catgirl: said it takes so much longer when she writes them! But her notes were really cute this year- like my aunt sent her a bunch of clothes and toys and her note said: thanks for all the stuff. It was from the heart for sure 😊

For my 4 yo who can’t write yet I just text thanks only. Bday I wrote them.

This post actually reminded me that DS has to write some thank yous so... You're not the only one who's not done!

We don’t do thank you notes for Christmas. Our family is out of town and we usually talk to them Christmas Day and thank them over the phone. A couple people we texted.

It's my goal to do them tomorrow so you're not the only one 😬 we live far away so relatives all ship stuff to my kids, so I feel like we need to send a thank you note. I probably wouldn't do a note if we opened in front of everyone.

@catgirl: same approach here (except never that many, you deserve a medal!) - we also have to get it done before 2 January bdays. I tell myself that it’s good writing practice in addition to the focus on gratitude - for my newly 5yo he just needs practice making letters and words, for my almost 8yo she can work on proper letter format and thinking of something nice to say.

I had DD crank out 4, then I wrote 2 and had her sign them. I still haven't mailed those last 2. :bummed:

Her birthday is in early Feb, so I like to turn the thank yous around quickly so a) they are off my list and b) People aren't getting a birthday invite before we've thanked them foe the last gift.

Do I think they are absolutely necessary? No, but Christmas gift exchange is such a rush and mess of unwrapping and commercialism, I like to spend some quiet time with DD focusing on the generosity and kindness we received.

We always write thank you cards, even for the people we open gifts with - it's how we were both raised and what we want to continue. DD's birthday is also in December though so we have a lot to write. I do one combined note for people who give her a gift for both. But we also had DD's first friend party this year - so that added more. Now that she is 5 I have her write the name of the person, thank you, and love, name - I then fill in the rest. But I swear it takes SOOOO much longer that way. We had 24 (or 25?) to write for DD and I had another 10 for myself (and joint gifts that DH and I received).

For me I just had to sit down and force myself to do them. I don't let myself use any of my new gifts until I get the thank yous done, which is a really great motivator!

We only send a thank you to my husband's Grandma because she mailed out gift and we don't see her. I mailed the thank you as soon as we got it. Otherwise we opened everything in front of the gift giver and thanked them at that point.

We also don’t do thank you notes for Christmas! Didn’t even cross my mind until this post! I do have to call my one grandma since we didn’t get to see her at Christmas due to all of us being sick and having to leave town early,, so thanks for the reminder for that!

We don’t do thank yous for Xmas! Is this a thing everywhere? I might if someone sent something from out of town but for gifts that got opened in front of everyone we don’t. And in fact when we were kids and my grandparents were out of town we just called when we got the present

Am I the only one that hasn't sent them yet? I know it's almost the end of January but I'm still recovering from hosting both sets of grandparents and a SIL for the holidays. My 6yo was ahead of me and wrote "Thank you!" on an index card and out it in an envelope for everyone she needed to thank. I didn't make her do more because she did it with a pure heart and felt really good about it. She also did my 4yos for him the same way which was sweet.

Send me constructive vibes so I can write this thank you to great grandma for the stuffed dog that dances to the macarena.
