We're flying from Australia to London with our 5 month old - a 33 hr journey, ugh! Two and a half weeks later, we're flying from London to Chicago, another 9 hr journey (not including airport time). And then 4 weeks later, we're flying from Chicago back to Australia, another 29 hr journey.

We're on the fence about bringing an umbrella stroller or if we should just use the Bjorn. Our families in the UK and US have car seats, cots, and prams, so it would really just be to use the umbrella stroller in the airport. Not sure yet what we're going to do.

And that reminds me I need to call British Airways AGAIN about getting a bassinet seat (we originally had one, then we didn't, then we maybe did, now we don't again - argh...) So that would be my advice, call early and often to make sure you can get a bassinet seat or a bulkhead with some floor space!

We are driving from MA to NC for thanksgiving with a 6 month old. I am a little nervous, but think we'll be OK. we're going to leave around 7 p.m and drive through the night. I will swaddle her into her car seat and hope that she stays sleeping for most of the drive. I also plan to lean over her seat to nurse her back to sleep if she wakes up! I figure that is more like normal than trying to pump and give her a bottle! My mom is looking to borrow big things from friends so we don't have to bring the pack n play or stroller and she has diapers and stuff so we won't have to pack those either. I am hopeful that the drive will be fine. My Dad hasn't seen her since she was a day old, and she's going to meet her great-great-grandma on this trip, too!

Hmm, so maybe we'll buy a cheap umbrella stroller, and gate check it and infant carseat. (I think she'll still just barely fit in her infant seat at Christmastime.) We also have a Snap & Go, but DD is pretty much over spending time in that stroller. She keeps trying to sit up and gets all annoyed at the recline. We have a Joovy Zoom jogging stroller, but it seems really large and bulky for the plane...

We traveled a few times with our Lo. When she was 3 months old we checked her infant seat and snap and go at the gate.
At 9 months old we checked her umbrella stroller at the gate and had mil ask her friends if she could borrow a convertible seat from one of her friends.
At 15 months old we checked an umbrella stroller at the gate and rented a car seat from the car rental place.

I would take snacks and your lo's favorite toys and books on the flight with you. I'm sure you can get cups from the flight attendants and entertain your Lo with random objects too.

Nurse/give a bottle when taking off and landing. Be prepared for LO to sleep... or not (which is the case with us). I've only ever worn LO while traveling (our families have carseats/strollers that we can use when we're there). If we were traveling with both, I would gate check the stroller and carseat. If there's room on the plane, they will usually let you use the carseat during the flight. And the stroller will be handy through the airport.

We are driving back home (3 hours) for Christmas. We do the drive about once a month (sometimes more) though. We have a good driving routine now, so it is pretty painless, and we have done the last couple drives without a 1/2 way point stop (we used to have to stop at the midway point or else LO got a little cranky).

We're driving about 5 hours to my parents' house for Thanksgiving, and then making the 16 hour trek to my in-laws' house for Christmas. We haven't traveled for the holidays in years, so I think I'm more nervous about the roads and other travelers than I am about the kids! Fingers crossed, we'll hit good weather for all our driving.

I will have a four year old two three year olds and a one year old. We are traveling to San Diego for the holidays. No too bad, about a three hour drive but we will be away from home or over a week which is enough to make me a little crazy.

Ok, so who is planning to travel with their little ones over the holidays this year.

We'll be driving (5 hours) up to Wisconsin for Thanksgiving to stay w/ my aunt and uncle. Then for Christmas, we'll be taking DD on her first flight to see some of my extended family in North Carolina.

What is everyone else up to, and are you nervous about holiday travel with babies?

Also, if anyone has any great tips for airplane travel with a baby, I would love to hear it. In particular, I'm wondering what carseat and stroller we should bring (and whether to gate check or regular check them).
