I checked with my doctor and she said it's perfectly safe and also helps prevent charlie horses. My legs were like tree trunks! What worked was elevating and I'd take towels, dunk them in cold water and have DH put them over my legs and apply a little pressure. It was awful and I had one pair of flip flops that my fat feet still fit into. It lasted until I delivered and within a week it all went away. There wasnt' anything that I tried that worked to get rid of it at the end. It'll go down a little, but never back to normal and it always comes back. Sorry to say, but you may be in it for the long haul. I'm now 38 weeks and my feet haven't looked normal for over 2 months! Some things I have tried that help: wearing compression tights/socks (although I disagree with boogiebea, they should not be worn while sleeping at night), lying on my back with my feet propped up against the wall, draining massages from my DH, soaking my feet in ice water, swimming laps at the pool, pillows underneath the foot of my side of the bed to elevate my feet all night. Today my hands were so puffy! So glad I took my rings off weeks ago. I've done everything I can to get the swelling to go down (and my BP is not high either-usually in the 95/55 range), avoided salt, lots of water, stayed off feet, elevated to heart/above...anyone else have some other recs? </p> <p>It's getting to the point where my poor little feet can barely wear Old Navy flip flops and it's not like I can show up to work barefoot! BOO! </p>
