@twoofeverything: I went to a home daycare where the Mom had twin girls and as a child I loved everything about it! If there was any bias it never impacted my world.
Your set up sounds good and I would be ok with the driving as long as the car seat was up to my standards.
Here are a few things I looked for in a home daycare:
Clean, fun, safe space
A daily schedule.
A clear discipline plan.
Healthy meals.
An open door policy (I can stop by whenever I want).
And good communication.

Good luck- I totally would have interviewed you

I think you might have better luck with someone who needs part-time care. Part-time spots are hard to come by and maybe that would eliminate the need for you to take them out and about because you could do that on off days.

Our Friday sitter will put up a PnP in another room for the babies to sleep in. Whatever helps them get a good nap! But I want the play areas to be separate and baby proofed and all that jazz. I'm sure you'll find someone comfortable with the situation, though!

ditto to everything @bao said.

I think it sounds like a great set up and I would definitely consider it, esp if my LO was around the same age...I think it would be great!

Thank you all so much! I really appreciate your input. It will definitely take the right person and the right fit. I so appreciate your candidness!

Hopefully someone will be willing to take the 'leap' and join our family/home :-) I guess I'm hoping that my experience/our home/family dynamic will be a good fit. Lighting in a bottle, I guess?!

So...would it be a requirement that we have a dedicated space (i.e. split level with dedicated downstairs) for the childcare space? Or would an organized playroom with art/reading/free play areas be adequate? I'm thinking that we'll have a PnP in one of our extra bedrooms so that each child will have their own space for naps/quiet time.

How about a curriculum? I have created a loose daily curriculum, meal plan, etc. but we would obviously adjust based on the kids' needs. Would this be necessary, or overkill?

Again, thanks so much!

1) Would you consider having your child in a SAHM/daycare situation where the Mom already had twins? Would you trust that your child would be as well-loved and well-taken care of?
We did this. My son was with a SAHM with a 4 year old for 18 months. I absolutely loved it and would do it again. You aren't a nanny at this point, you are a child care/baby sitter. I would expect you to follow my instructions (i.e. breastmilk) but not be at my command.

2) What would you look for in a home daycare situation?
Television not being on. Someplace fun and exciting. Appropriately set up for the children's ages. So this would mean high chairs or potty seats as appropriate.

3) How about outings/field trips? Would you be comfortable having me drive your children to the zoo/park/etc.? (I have a CDL, a clean record, and drove a large school bus in college!)
I personally would love outings and trips. But some parents may not.

4) What would you be willing to pay? Would you expect to have all meals/snacks/bottles/activities paid for?
I would pay about $20 - $30 a day for full time (approx 10 hours). This comes to about what the home child care rate is in my town. In a different town it would be different. I also wouldn't do any taxes because you are not an employee you are an independent contractor. I would provide breastmilk and I ended up providing most food (because of food allergies). I would expect lunch to be fed and a few snacks. For activities, if it is a class then I would pay absolutely. The zoo would depend on how often you go if it is weekly I would expect you to have a membership. Of course if I paid a bit more but still reasonable then you could pay for more activities.

I probably wouldn't consider an at home daycare where the moms kids were already there. I prefer an unbiased environment. I wouldn't be comfortable with you driving them, either. I would have to be really blown away to consider you! I would be too uncomfortable with E being not your kid

That being said. E goes to an at home daycare. She is unlicensed and has only four children there. We love her. She has four grown kids and we were totally enamored with her and chose her. We pay $200 for 4 days of care and E goes to a sitter on Fridays for $50. It is more expensive than the other options except kinder care. Other in homes were $150, a center was $210, and fancy places were $300/week. Food is included once she's past purées and formula. I love the situation and T's house is nice and clean, safe, and she has a dedicated area (a finished basement) for the children. She rotates toys and helps potty train, too. It's also in a nicer area. We looked at some in homes and while I'm sure the care was fine, if it was dumpy, I wasn't interested in sending my kid there.

I would consider it, yes. Bonus if my LO was the same age as yours, it would be fun to have playmates for her! I wouldn't mind you taking her anywhere as long as she wasn't trapped in the car all day just running errands. The zoo, library, parks, picnics, museums...she would have so much fun! No one wants to stay cooped up inside all day. You sound like you are well qualified so that would make me feel like you know what you are doing. A clean house is a must. Obviously toys get everywhere but I mean not piled up dirty dishes, dirty toilets, just overall filth would not fly. I would love a daycare that did tons of art activities and allowed my LO to get messy, explore and learn. It would be nice if meals were included. I'm not overly picky about my LO's meals though. As long as it has nutritional value I'm happy! Treats in my eyes are good now and then as well :) I'm not sure how much I would pay only because it really depends on what is included and how many perks there are, overall. Good luck to you!

1) Would you consider having your child in a SAHM/daycare situation where the Mom already had twins? Would you trust that your child would be as were loved and well-taken care of?

Yes, I would consider it, although I would want to meet you and see how you interact with your kids and how well behaved they are. The older they were, the more comfortable I would be. FWIW one of my coworkers sends his son to an in home daycare where she also watches her grandson (and other kids). My coworker had never expressed any concern about her ignoring the other kids to favor her grandson.

2) What would you look for in a home daycare situation?

Your personality, space, cleanliness, affordability, and experience.

3) How about outings/field trips? Would you be comfortable having me drive your children to the zoo/park/etc.? (I have a CDL, a clean record, and drove a large school bus in college!)

Yes, but after my kid had been with you a while and trusted you a lot. I'd also want to make sure your car was big enough and you had appropriately installed carseats.

4) What would you be willing to pay? Would you expect to have all meals/snacks/bottles/activities paid for?

I think this depends totally on the area. I would expect to pack meals/bottles, and would be ok with either packing snacks or you serving them. We don't eat beef/pork so daycares with lunch included wouldnt be cost effective for us. I would be ok with paying for some extra activities (like occasional zoo or museum trip) but would also then expect to be able to decline those outings if I didn't want to pay for them.

Good luck!

Yes. It sounds like since you have professional experience it's not like you're just a mom looking for extra cash. You honestly would be qualified.

I like that our daycare provides meals but I do wish they were healthier. I wouldn't mind packing snacks since that's not hard.

I'm not sure how I would feel about anyone driving my LO at that age. If I did allow it, it would only be for specific activities I approved like a visit to the library. But definitely not just so you could run errands.

I don't have children yet so I can't answer most of your questions. However, I do have personal experience when I was a kid of being in home daycare provider settings so I thought I could give a couple personal anecdotes to the concern about being cared for by a mom. My mom started a home daycare in order to stay home with my brother and me when we were little (a long, long time ago). She had a similar background to you (certified teacher, lots of experience in early childhood ed, etc). I recall that the dynamic changed some when the other kids were at our house and I remember her treating us all pretty fairly (which of course put my nose out of joint on occasion, since I was pretty sure I deserved special treatment). I loved having her be home with us. When I was older my brother and I went to several home daycare settings, some that had a mom with kids and some that did not (kids were older, like high school or out of school), I always felt like I was treated well and given the attention I needed. The situation you are describing is super common around me. When I do have children, the situation you are describing is exactly the type of care I will be looking for based on my own personal experiences as a kid and the fact that I will need to continue to work.

Sorry but I would just never be comfortable with my child care provider splitting her attention between my child and her own children. Human nature dictates that you will meet your own children's needs first.

I'm thinking about having an additional child join us. I currently SAH with my B/G twins who are 14 months, and I am a certified teacher with 10 years experience in preschool-3rd grade. I also was a director for a large childcare center in the area.
We just moved into a new home in the Seattle suburbs and are working to get licensed, but this is a looong process and will take several months. We do, however, meet all licensing requirements. It's just a question of getting the piece of paper and attending the state-required orientation, which has a waiting list for enrollment. Sigh!

So...a few questions...
1) Would you consider having your child in a SAHM/daycare situation where the Mom already had twins? Would you trust that your child would be as well-loved and well-taken care of?
2) What would you look for in a home daycare situation?
3) How about outings/field trips? Would you be comfortable having me drive your children to the zoo/park/etc.? (I have a CDL, a clean record, and drove a large school bus in college!)
4) What would you be willing to pay? Would you expect to have all meals/snacks/bottles/activities paid for?

Thanks for your input!
