Just an fyi, my baby hated purees. I know this isn't your question, but we made a freezer full of purees for her to try and she wasn't into any of it. As soon as we offered her small soft chunks of food, she became a great eater. Yesterday, she had peas for lunch and she wouldn't stop eating sugar snap peas at dinner time!! (She's 10 months)

Good luck, just know that there is an alternative!

@Mrsbells: oh i forgot to mention. i also puree it with water to thin out the consistency like @honeybee. i wonder if that will help eliminate any stringy bits?

I always mix grainier/chunkier veggies like peas, beans with creamier stuff like avocado and sweet potatoes. It makes it much more appealing to DD.

Just like you, I also wanted to wait until much later before introducing fruits but that went out the window when she was having major constipation issues. I now mix in grated pears or pureed peaches with a little unsweetened prune juice to her morning cereal.

@caffeinated: This is true. My texture was always grainy instead of creamy, but I have that issue a lot with fiberous veggies (certain squashes, etc...).

@Mrsbells: i don't recall any stringy bits. At least i didn't see any in the puree. The texture was more grainy, but impossible to tell when mixed in with the potatoes.

@sarac: Haha since I already bought a bag full of green beans I will give it a try and strain it. then next time I will go to avocado and then maybe oatmeal, then brown rice. I want to do veggies, cereal and then fruit. In that order.

I pureed green beans with an immersion blender and could never get it to be a nice consistency. Since i had already introduced sweet potatoes to LO, i mixed it in with the green beans which allowed for a more creamy texture. I never strained my beans/peas/zucchini.

@T-Mom: Yes I do have a strainer so I will have to spend the additional time straining it.
@Honeybee: Oh thats helpful. I will add some breastmilk to mine to get it thinner and fingers crossed it goes well.

Hmmm, I never had an issue with texture? I just blend on the "puree" setting of my blender. The trick is that you do have to use more water to thin it out than other vegetables, so my green bean puree is always a bit thin. I just thicken it back up to the right consistency with a little rice cereal. Also, make sure you scrape the sides a lot, so it gets blended well.

@Mrsbells: I think they must strain it. I don't see how else they could get it so smooth. You can definitely do it, but it's just a little bit of work. I blended and blended as much as possible (added some water also) and then strained.

So how are they able to get it so smooth in the store-bought jars? Because I fed green beans to my nephew from a gerber jar and it was smooth and creamy.

With green beans and peas I could not get smooth texture without straining. After doing that once, I decided never again, it took way too long and yielded so little after the straining ( but LO loved it and ate it up!)! For those veggies I just bought the purée from the store until LO didn't mind the texture.

I never could get green beans to turn out right. It always had those stringy pieces in it and I couldn't get rid of them no matter what I did. I tried straining the purees a few times but it didn't help. We ended up waiting until DS started eating table food.

I am starting solids this weekend and decided to start with green beans. For some reason I feel nervous and have a few questions. Do any of you make your own green bean puree?
I went to a local farmers market today and bought some beans but it says "string beans" on the bucket but it looks just the same as green beans. is there a difference?

Also I read on wholesome baby food that its hard to get into a smooth texture, did any of you run into any issues with green beans? My baby is 6 months old
