I'm honestly not a fan of carbonated water / seltzer water. Don't want to spend the money on a soda stream either.

@looch: yes! We call it "fancy" water. LOL But thanks, I forgot all about that!

@MediaNaranja: thanks!

@snowjewelz: we just found out our juicer is still alive! Just juiced orange and carrot juice the other day. :) But it takes sooooooo much fruits to make one beverage.

@autumnleaves: yum!

During watermelon season, I like to cut pieces of watermelon and blend it with mint.

We juice (tho it's a PITA to clean up). DH also bought some stuff online and makes his own ginger ale/ginger beer?? I have no clue, haha. We also drink a lot of tea and DH buys cheap wholesale leaves, etc. We also drink flavored water, dumping mint/lime, etc into pitcher and stick into fridge.

We like making Aguas Frescas (basically like really fresh fruit juice)...there are a gazillion recipes out there. We don't tend to make/drink them in the winter, but are heaven in the summer!

This is a good place to start: http://thelatinkitchen.com/drinks/s/8-refreshing-aguas-frescas

If you can find it, Ecuadorian horchata is a wonderful drink as well--you might be able to find it in a Latin market. We tend to buy a TON whenever we visit my husband's family. http://laylita.com/recipes/2011/11/17/horchata-lojana/

Do you like infused waters? Like cucumber water, watermelon water, etc?

We have a sodastream too, I got it for my husband a couple of years back and he was very into it until recently. I have to remind him he has it, lol.

Otherwise, I just make different kinds of iced tea, that's always nice to have around (I like my unsweetened). Lemonade I find more challenging, but I am planning to experiment using stevia and agave instead of sugar.

Another vote for a soda stream. We use ours a lot- like we probably make 5 bottles a week- so go through the canisters way faster than @MaryM: but it's still cheaper than buying carbonated water. We mostly drink it as plain seltzer or add lemon or lime juice, or I add a splash of juice- like a tablespoon or two probably, just for taste. I didn't really care for any of their flavorings that we tried.

You can just switch up the teas you're using for iced tea. We drink mint tea, roasted barley or corn tea, black tea, green tea, etc. The hibiscus or red zinger teas in the summer are tasty too.

@regberadaisy: My DH likes using those Mio drops to flavor his water - you could try that - tons of flavors - my kids like them too!

We have a sodastream. DH still buys soda, but I mostly make my own. I don't drink a lot of soda, but it's nice to be able to make on demand.

I also like having just plain carbonated water and it seems dumb to pay for it at the store. The flavors I have now are root beer, diet dr. pete (dr. pepper), and a lime basil.

We don't use it regularly, but I've had it for 4-5 years (when they first came out) and am still on my second air cartridge.

What about getting a Sodastream? You can make sparking water and flavour it with fruit, or if you're just looking to save the soda money and not so worried about the sugar you can buy the bottles of flavouring and DIY Coke, Sprite, whatever - it's a lot cheaper than buying the real thing.

DH & I are trying to get away from spending money on things like soda, carbonated beverages, etc.

If you make beverages at home, what do you make that doesn't include the use of a powder substance?

The two we make regularly are iced tea and lemonade. But that's going to get old fast. I drink a lot of water but DH gets bored of it easily.
