@Mrs. Twine: The honey marshmallows worked well for rice krispie treats but it doesn't work well for marshmallow fondant.

It was fun. It's something you don't think you can make, but it's not hard at all! And you know what's in them, which is wonderful if you are looking to avoid certain ingredients. I like to use our honey instead of corn syrup. It's a great 1:1 substitute, and we have LOTS of honey, so for us it is very cost effective. I don't object to corn syrup on the whole, but if there is an easy alternative I will usually use it. I'll turn this into a post, so be looking for a recipe in the coming days.

That's amazing! Recipe, please!

My LO is just starting solids but I love making/tweaking recipes to let people with food restrictions take part -most often I end up subbing soy or almond milk into a recipe and adding a little lemon juice to make 'vegan buttermilk' as part of the recipe.

We started a new tradition and made some peppermint marshmallows to have with hot chocolate on Christmas after our sledding outing. Ellie can't eat most marshmallows because she is very sensitive to food coloring, We were able to use candy cane bits that had natural dye (from beets) and natural dye we purchased to make them pink. We had lots of fun making them, and now, eating them. Anyone else use their child(ren)'s allergy or sensitivity to learn to make new things?
