@lindseykaye: hahaha LO is iron deficient so I'm always looking at iron content! ;)

@regberadaisy: Good point about dark meat! I think I will use a chicken thigh next time for the iron (and taste - I'm partial to dark meat, too).

I poached a chicken breast and used the liquid to puree it in the food processor. The meat still kind of separated out from the liquid afterwards so I also added rice cereal to bind it all and make it a little thicker.
Then I froze it into cubes, and I pop one out and microwave it for a little bit to defrost it. You can serve it like this or mix it with some veggie puree (like sweet potato, carrot, or green beans). It is seriously LO's favorite dinner! And I feel like with the protien, rice cereal and veg it really is a complete meal :)

@travelgirl1: if she's already had the veggies then I see no problems with adding it? She might also be more inclined to eat it if you put her favorite veg in? Dark meat has more iron than white meat. :) And I think it's more tender! But I'm partial to dark meat....

@regberadaisy: it will be the first time she's had it so are we okay to add veggies (that she's already had) or should we offer just chicken? Do you think the darker meat would be better than white?

I cooked a bunch of chicken breasts in the crock pot for us and then pureed one in the blender for LO. You can also steam it. My little steamer will steam a piece of salmon in about 7 minutes, so chicken shouldn't take more than 10 or so. If you steam it, you can use the juice from that. My LO loves chicken.

I would roast it bc poaching would leech most of the "goodness" out of it into the water. If you roast maybe also add veggies and water then use the liquid in the bottom of the pan to puree?

Or you can make chicken soup then use the broth to puree?

It just sounds so gross! Right now I'm blending her solids with breast milk but chicken and breast milk doesn't sound good... Or maybe it will be like chicken soup?

So I wanted to start with chicken. Which part of the chicken should I use? Should I roast? Poach? Is it really as grim as it sounds?

I have to make a puree, DH is not on board with BLW.
