I recently bought this from Costco and it is soo delicious. They would be a great addition. A little goes a long way in adding sweetness to trail mix.

We keep like a zillion different flavors of Goldfish (pizza, Parmesan, cheese, pretzel) and mix/rotate them, including the sweet graham ones. We also have Belvita bites, the sweet Boom Chicka Pop, rice cakes, oyster crackers, Frosted Mini wheats, Cheerios, yogurt melts, mini marshmallows, raisins, Craisins, and dried cherries. Larabars cut up into cubes is good and they are actually really easy to make at home.

Cranberries, nuts, pumpkin seeds, chocolate chips or m&m's (the best part of trail mix in my opinion!). You could also try making them granola which is kind of like trail mix.

I love to do:

-Pretzels that look like a checkerboard (Snyder's Snaps)
- Yogurt Melts
- Dried cherries/cranberries
- Raisins/yogurt covered raisins
- Nuts (cashews or shelled pistachios)
- cereal (cheerios or chex or quaker oat squares)
- as a treat, a sugary cereal like the little mini trix - fun for color

I prefer to avoid chocolate chips/m & ms for the car (usually where we have trail mix) because of the melting/mess factor.

We just check out the bulk section at the grocery store and pick up anything that looks interesting. Right now in our pantry, we have a mix of seeds, sliced nuts, and dried fruits (LO actually prefers big ones like prunes and apricots). We also found some small "bars" in the bulk section that are sort of like lara bars but seem to be a mixture of dried fruits, seeds, and carob (she thinks they are chocolate but they aren't!). And cheerios of course.

Some combinations of:

- raisins, dried cranberries, and/or dried cherries
- hulled sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and/or almond slivers (other bigger nuts if you are comfortable with that -- pistachios, cashews)
- mini chocolate chips (the super tiny ones!)
- cereal: cheerios, chex, life, granola clusters

My favorite one from Trader Joes has almonds, cashews, pistachios, dried cherries, and chocolate chips. I could eat the whole bag!

I want to make a kid friendly trail mix for the girls, but I want to put "different" things in it, not their everyday snacks. They always have the same few things (Goldfish, pretzels, crackers), I'm hoping if I give them an interesting mix of things they will try new snacks. Any ideas?
