I can't imagine ever being done. We have been in our house since Feb13 and we have painted our bedroom and ton of yard work, but haven't had time or money to do a lot more. We have plans to replace french doors but broken AC and tree falling on the house (so roof and gutter repairs) won out.

We just celebrated our 4 yr anniversary since moving in (which happens to also be our 4 yr couple anniversary)

It's been 4 years: marriage and the birth of our first child later and there's still SO MUCH TO BE DONE! I am kicking myself for not doing all the projects pre-TTC! Outside it looks like a different house, but inside, it's basically the same.

I have an exhausting list of things I'd like to do that I know I'll push back since it's not necessary. The next big project is definitely getting the windows replaced. But that's at a standstill since we can't agree on the color  and it's crazy expensive - we have a ton of windows!

Honestly, I'll be happy if the mirror I bought years ago finally gets hung up before LO's birthday!

@mfa_lady: @Cherrybee: This is my big fear... we will get to a point where we're happy and then have to start replacing the stuff we've already done!

@Cole: I agree - nice to not feel that it is urgent to get things done. We have some stuff that, while not to our taste or not high quality, we don't necessarily need to replace right away - that's helpful.

@Bao: @Shutterbug: Doing it on your own is definitely a whole different animal. We DIY some stuff and hire people for other stuff. The DIY takes us sooooo much longer since we have to work around naps/bedtimes/work schedules. Good for you!

I'm going to start a separate thread finding out what people are working on currently... fun to see what projects everyone has!

Never! We're DIYers, and so far we've gutted our basement family room, mudroom and bathroom, knocked down two walls (one load-bearing - we hired that part out), gutted our kitchen, converted two windows into doors, and replaced a few windows. We still want to gut our other bathroom, re-landscape our whole yard, replace the rest of the windows, replace the siding, replace the deck. That being said, I'm fine with relaxing and enjoying the projects that we have finished, and we take breaks in between the big projects. It's taken us 7 years to do all the things we've done so far.

Never. I can't believe we've been in the house 4 years already! And have barely done anything. We joke that at this rate, by the time we are done with the house, it'll be so long that it's time to start over with the first thing we finished again!

I don't think I will ever be done but as we do more and more the need to do the projects seems less and less pressing. Obviously we are hoping to be working on the nursery soon!

We bought our house two years ago and have done loads of work on it - but there's still loads to do. Plus, the first room we decorated - the hall, stairs and landing - needs a fresh coat of paint now!!! It's never ending!

We don't even own but we moved in March and I still feel this way. It is my personality to always need to be improving things, however. I think I'll never relax again!

We moved in about 15 months ago, definately livable and all in good working order but we have SO many projects we want to do. We just put in all new windows last week, and are currently working on the basement to finish a room, drywall, paint update the bathroom etc. We do most projects on our own so it takes a long time, and finding the money becomes difficult too. I think there will always want to be projects/updates we want to do.

We bought a house that was a flip a few years ago. It worked well for us because all of the pressing issues (roof, windows, electrical etc.) were taken care of in addition to stuff like the kitchens and bathrooms. So from that standpoint we are really in pretty good shape. We know that some things weren't done really well or at all and it has left us with some projects but none are urgent. I doubt we will ever feel done but we feel content to chisel away slowly at our list as opposed to feeling overwhelmed by the need to do everything soon.

My parents built their home from the ground up, and according to my mom, once they got everything just how they wanted it, all the original stuff started messing up/needing updates. So....I'm going to go with no! It's never done!

We've just lived in it a little over a year now and the project list is definitely not ending anytime soon! The big ticket item right now is replacing our roof (which we knew we have to do). DH is pretty much done with landscaping but wants to make a raised vegetable garden (this is pretty much to set up this fall for next spring...) I really want to re-do our front walkway/stairs, and he wants to re-do the back stone patio. Maaybe we'll tackle one thing per year, since I don't see us suddenly getting a lot richer quickly!

So far I have owned 4 homes and we are in the process of building a house right now. All of them have been brand new I have never been "done" with any of them, because I feel as though there is always some kind of improvement to be done. The house we're building right now is one we plan on living in for a long time and even though it's not built yet, I already have tons of projects for it.

I guess I just enjoy home improvement!

We're coming up on 4 years, and the projects never stop!! :crying:

We do everything ourselves, and we're doing some pretty big renovations, so every project takes a loooong time.

I definitely know what you mean - I'd love to get to a point where I can enjoy my house instead of always being on the lookout for what we should be working on instead :bummed:

We bought our first house 2 years ago and love it. It is an old house but not a fixer upper by any stretch. However, there are SO many things we want to change about it! Most of them are relatively little things, but with 2 kids, it is just hard to get to anything. I think this is partly my personality - I like to be busy and am not really happy sitting around if there is a project I could be working on. But I really would like to get to a place where I spend some evenings relaxing at home rather than feeling like I need to be working toward a goal. If you are satisfied with your home right now, did you have to plow through a bunch of projects first?
