We turn on Thomas the Tank Engine or Dinosaur Train - sometimes he'll watch, other times he'll watch five min of it and then go and play. The problem for us is that we have it in the living room - my MIL currently lives in the basement but once she moves out (soon!) we will have the TV downstairs so hopefully this will curb TV time.

LO is 4 and it varies by day. If he is up early he can watch a show before we leave for daycare as long as he is dressed and has eaten breakfast. Then he might get a show when he gets home or after bath time. On the weekends he gets a bit more, he has mostly dropped his nap at home so he might get a movie for quiet time.

On weekdays, LO usually watches while I try to get ready for work or make lunches - I would say he actually focuses on it for maybe 20-45 minutes at most. On the weekends, he might get a bit more so that we can all hang out in bed since he is up at 5:30 lately.

She watches TV most evenings, and more on the weekends. But she's in daycare 11 hours a day and gets no screen time during those hours, so I'm not bothered by it at home.

I have no clue, she usually watches 1/2 a show in the morning as we finish getting ready and a show while I cook dinner. She will either watch a show on her tablet before bed or watch TV with us. I'm not someone who is strict on TV time because she gets plenty of physical activity and is not a couch potato, she plays while watching.

@oliviaoblivia: I totally agree with you about interactive screen time vs stare at screen zombie screen time!

On days we drive over 20+ minutes (usually weekends), she definitely watches videos to/from destination; it's the only way she won't freak out. But it's always nursery rhymes and I sing along and do hand movements with her.

At home also; if she has screen time it's usually music and we dance & sing along together. Or I'm asking her what she's seeing on the screen.

During the week, DH has has her solo and has to prepare dinner so he does put on TV for her, but she rarely just sits there and stares.

LO is 3.5 and I voted less than 4 hours- she only gets to watch tv on Saturday and Sunday mornings, we usually let her watch 3 shows each day. She will occasionally get to look at animal videos on our phones.

If I have to get ready solo in the mornings, he gets 15-20min during that time (2-3x week); otherwise we try not to give him a show until after dinner; ranging 30-45min. Now that the weather is pretty, we spend a lot of time outside and don't always watch a show. so he probably averaging 30-45min per day 4x a week. During the winter it got pretty bad and was more like 1.5 hours more days than not.

It depends. the days she's in daycare, and on weekends (because we are so busy) it's easy so she gets maybe 30 mins.

But Monday's and Fridays she's home all day with me and the baby so it's hard. Especially during our long, cold winters. She probably gets 2 hours spread out throughout the day. I don't really stress about it though.

I voted none because we have never put the TV on specifically for her and it is not on when she is awake. She's only 14 months though.

The one exception to that is during football season the game for my husband's team will be on. Well and not sure what happens at grandmacare, she might be getting her fill of MSNBC there too :P

ETA: I wasn't counting facetime which maybe she does for a half hour a week.

On weekdays, usually none - by the time we get home it's only an hour until dinner and he usually wants to go outside (although I confess that sometimes I ask him if he wants to watch tv hoping that we can all just sit on the couch). On weekends we usually have it on for an hour or two (or three, if we're moving slow) in the mornings while everybody is getting organized and ready. If you'd asked me this a month ago, when we had a newborn and snow on the ground, the answer would have been a lot higher.

Honestly, about 60ish minutes a day. Sometimes more. LO is 5 mos old. She watches veggie tales or Sesame Street with dad in the morning while he drinks a cup of coffee and I get things ready for the day. Then she facetimes with grandparents every night. The more depends on how many grandparents we talk to (4 separate sets). They all live across the country.

@Cherrybee: don't feel bad! I am a solo parent a huge amount of my week (95% or more)! TV is on way more then I care to admit. Between solo parenting and being sick with this pregnancy it's been bad. 😳 I tell myself at least it's educational and I watch with them so we can talk about the lessons. This all said they don't watch it all day long or really longer then 30 minutes at a time really it's on but they are busy with their books or other toys. I also make sure we get out of the house a couple times a week to really engage their whole bodies.
Do what works for you. 😘

We don't have a TV, but they get iPad videos from time to time. It's probably less than 2 hours per week because we don't let them use the iPad every day. Occasionally we'll let them watch a movie over the weekend, so obviously that adds to it.

Umm.... I dread to think!

Weekdays, she gets an hour TV in the morning (in my bed), then, on nursery days, a further 45 mins on the tablet in the car. Then another 1.5 hours in the evening (we play, too, but its on in the background).

Weekends, between the TV at home, the tablet in the car/at restaurants and my phone when she nabs it.... 6 hours, perhaps?! *hangs head in shame*

They do facetime their grandparents and aunts/uncles or one of us when we are travelling for business. Other than that my kiddos love looking at pictures so they do that. I don't count that as screentime though.

it depends on the day. while later in pregnancy and early into DD2, she got a lot more. but lately, it's been 0-20 minutes. i don't mind it (Daniel Tiger has taught my kid more than me, i swear!) it's the time when i need her to turn it off that she turns into a monster, so that's why i limit it!

It varies but I said less than 90 mins. He's 19 months.
Some days we literally don't turn the tv on. Other days when it's rainy or he's sick it might be 90 mins or maybe 2 hours spread through the day. I generally let him watch one show at a time, not bingeing. So I figured 90 mins is a safe "real" answer.

I don't feel awful about our screen time in general. He's awake 10 hours a day; if he's watching max 2 hours I'm ok with that. I do feel guilt that I'm not creative enough to come up with other options.

About 40 mins while I get ready every morning. About 20-30 after nap most days. Tv isn't on otherwise and he doesn't get our phones and we don't have a tablet.
We were doing more because I was sick and pregnant and tired, but we cut down to 0 for a couple days then added back in the tv so I can get ready and the tv after nap some days.
We did used to let him watch a DVD player in the car, but it broke.

Before I got pregnant with my second it was a half hour every morning while I got ready, and maybe one or two other episodes throughout the day. Since I got pregnant, then had a baby... It's a lot more. And it's couch potato time, not interactive, for the most part. But I need a break sometimes, and I need to get the baby to sleep without her yelling for me, so I do what I have two. So probably at least an hour most days, sometimes two on bad days. She's 2.5.

I don't count FaceTime because we live far from family so that's the only way she knows them!

I'm a SAHM and we don't turn the TV on till DH gets home from work after 4pm (he has a couple of shows he likes to watch but the kids aren't really interested).
