@TurtleDoves: I'm SO sorry. And yeah, it's not like it's normal to be all happy and rested at this time, but screaming all night isn't the usual either. If it were me, I'd push the baby wearing. Different kind, different hold, different weight fabric?

Or how about long walks in a nice stroller? Is your neighborhood safe enough to walk in at night? I'd be tempted to leash up my big dog and just blearily walk around. Have you tried earplugs? If you're doing literally everything you can do and it isn't working, I might resort to that. At least you can spare your eardrums while you're rocking and shushing and swaddling and so on.

@Mrs. Jacks: How can co-sleeping be done safely? I have seriously considered this.
@sarac: He hates baby-wearing:( ahh! Nothing works...
DH does take him from evening until about midnight so I can sleep about 3h...but then it's all me. He works at 8am...so it's taking a huge toll on our energy levels.

I am still giving the ColicCalm and the acid reflux medication and today was my first day cutting out both dairy and soy. Let's see how this goes...
I'll give it until 4 weeks, then we have an appointment with our pediatrician anyways, so i'll bring it up then. Wish us luck! & some sleep:)
*side note: It's not that i expect a 2w old to sleep too much at night but, I just hate that he screams hysterically as if he is in pain. It breaks my heart:( and makes me feel like a failure:(

I am so sorry, this part is hell. Is there any way your husband can take more time off? Or a parent or sibling of yours? Anything at all to let you get a little more sleep. Even someone you could hire to come rock the baby for a few hours just to regain your sanity a little bit.

Are you baby wearing? That can be a good way to soothe an angry baby, and walking with a baby in a carrier can really help. I have a friend who's baby was either eating or crying for months, and she would just put him in the moby wrap and walk for hours. It helped him, and it helped her mood when she was just miserable.

15 days is awfully young for colic. I second (third?) Harvey karps Happiest Baby on the block and the 5s's. We also found that our first baby was only quiet and slept when she was in bed with us. It can be done safely. If you are going to change the feeding regimen, soy and dairy go hand in hand, so I usually tell moms to cut soy and dairy out of the diet if they think that's the problem. It's a huge commitment and not to be taken lightly, so I'd only do it as a last resort if everything else failed.

Have you thought about taking your LO to see an Osteopath?

Sometimes babies can have alignment issues or a tight gut / abdomen and a session with an Osteopath can help work out any mis-alignments or wind / gut issues.

We actually took our LO to an Ostepath this morning and she's seriously been farting, pooing and burping up a storm since we got home! An Osteo might also be able to give you some different burping techniques to help too.

Good luck and hope you both feel better soon!

@IcebergMom: I know:( I know:( DH took him for 3 hours this morning and I feel like a new person...but I'm so scared for tonight.

Ito all that say it may be a phase: I hope so ...for his sake, I hope nothing is wrong with him:(
As far as formula goes: I'm not going to do it anymore...I was desperate last night when I wrote this and right now-I'm thinking it was a bad idea.
Gripe water, gas drops and colic calm have all been tried:(
I'll take to his pediatrician this week and I will try all the methods the awesome, wonderful mothers mentioned tonight:)
@BeachMama: I'm getting this book! I remember skimming through it while I was pregnant and liking it:)
@erinpye: I actually checked for this after reading your thread on it but our LC said he's fine..,his latch is good but he eats constantly and I'm thinking its a super long growth spurt

I would suggest gas drops (we used generic Mylicon), maybe try the Windi (or just use a rectal thermometer to get a fart out), massage the belly, put him on his tummy to help with the gas, and the 5 S's. Also try a swing or a rock n play... the elevated head position can help them with gas pain.

Gas is a pain!! If the culprit is gas, it's really just a phase-- their guts need to mature to be able to handle the gas. It will get better!!!

Does he cry a lot during the day?

The 5 S's , especially the swaddle and the swing were life savers for us. They may act like they hate the swaddle going in but it calms them down after a minute.

Switching to formula is not going to help you. There may be a different issue all together and if you're worried about your breast milk you should see a lactation consultant. 1 bottle of formula can change the makeup of a babies gut and therefore not worth it, unless medically needed. At 15 days old, it's normal still for a baby to want to be up all night long. You're still in the early days.

Most babies don't develop colic until 4 weeks, so it may be a gas issue. What do babies poops look like? Are you having a forceful let down or an over supply? Is baby gaining weight properly?

We used gripe water and Mylicon when LO went through something similar. It will get better! I also would put him on his tummy on the boppy and that helped get some gas out also. Best of luck!

So sorry you're going through this. Is he nursing for a long time or short amounts? Does he want to nurse often? DS went through a week-long growth spurt and I was miserable. It might not be that, but it did eventually get better. DS was just diagnosed with acid reflux, so that's another battle. We were told to keep him upright for an hour after he eats. He usually tolerates me sitting in the rocker and rocking during that hour, although occasionally I have to walk around bouncing him.

As for the formula, the LC I talked to said that formula would not make anything better regarding the reflux. I personally would hate to pump and dump since it takes time away from DS (or when I could be sleeping) and goes to waste.

If they gave LO a prescription for Zantac, that takes a full two weeks to kick in. For severe gas and bloating, our pediatrician recommended this stuff called Colic Calm. We tried all these different gas drops and gripe water and that was the only stuff that helped us. There is a store locator function on their website. As a warning, though, the liquid is black because it contains carbon so put LO in a bib before administering.

@zippylef: this is true, I worry about the soy based formulas may still cause a problem in over 70% of infants with milk problems. Though some infants with milk problems have responded favorably to the neutrogimin style formulas.

We did formula (regular) occasionally very early on and it was worse than breastmilk because it took longer to digest. We did very good with the neocate formula but that's expensive for 2 days trial.

In our case, my ped was unable to help at all with our MSPI problems. The only reason he is doing well is because we did the diet changes. Our pediatrician wanted him on more meds. We finally found a great gastro after my son was Failure To Thrive and we demanded a referral.

I you want to do formula for a couple days, just do soy formula. Not ALL formula is milk-based.

Honestly? It may just be a phase. C did it during the day instead of at night. She spent like.... 90% of her first 3 months of life screaming hysterically. If she was awake, she was screaming. It was exhausting. We thought it was gas too and gave her drops before every bottle. It helped, but only a tiny bit. When she hit 3 months, it was like a switch flipped in her head and now she is the happiest, smiliest baby. Like @BeachMama: said, it's really that "fourth trimester" thing. I guess some babies don't adjust as well to being outside the womb.

Talk to your ped before you just start switching diets and everything. They should be able to counsel you on the best way to do it. It may not even be necessary.

Check for tongue and lip ties. It's what caused our baby's "colic" and "reflux." She literally cried nonstop for the first 4 months of her life and wouldn't sleep unless I held her. She's a completely different baby since we had her TT and LT clipped. I wrote about the whole thing in another one of my posts. This is so super common and when babies are diagnosed with reflux, it's often a sign.

My son was the same. After his first set of shots at 6 weeks he was intolerable. I had him propped on my legs and I was sooooo tired I fell asleep with him screaming on me.

He was diagnosed with reflux as well. I personally think the meds did more harm than good. I wouldn't go to formula because it has all milk proteins. Take out the milk proteins in your diet and keep nursing through.

My son screamed for 12-15 hours everyday until he was 4 months old. We got to the point where daddy would take the night shift and just have to put him down to cry himself to sleep. He slept from 3 am on because the food was finally digested and he wasn't in pain. It was the worst time in my life. I felt I missed so much time with him because of the screaming. We are all still alive at 18 months old so, you can get through it.

We had him sleep in a swing I recommend this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005V9CU9O/ref=mp_s_a_5?pi=SL75&qid=1351575077&sr=8-5. It was fantastic. We also had good success with happiest baby on the block techniques.

Try the 5 S's from Happiest Baby on the Block. Our LO screamed every night starting at 1 week old. For us, swaddling, bouncing on a yoga ball and loud shushing or white noise helped. DH and I had to take shifts in the night with bouncing and shushing her. I had thought maybe it was a dairy intolerance but I really think it was just an immature digestive system and the "fourth trimester." At 5 months old now she is a completely different baby - happy, smiley, and rarely cries. Hang in there. I know everyone says it but it will get better!

Long story short:
I complained about exsessive hiccups, burping and spit ups to doc and he prescribed acid reflux med for LO.
That was 9 days ago...LO is 15 days old.
Things have only gotten worse and try are insane at night! He screams and cries as if he's in pain....but he farts, poops & burps which makes me believe he is getting rid of the bloat & gas. So, why is he so upset?

I'm thinking it may be colic....or maybe an issue with my diet?
I am thinking I should give him formula for 2 days in order to get on a better diet (no cows milk/dairy) and then go back to nursing (pumping and dumping in the mean time).
Advice? I'm getting super exhausted...dangerously tired...to the point where DH had to come home from work early to be with LO while I napped because I was lightheaded from lack of sleep (noooo sleep)

ETA: I am ebf & giving 1 bottle of pumped milk at night
