I get this a lot, it's not ingrown hairs, it's skin irritation in my case. There are a few things that make it better, like using a 5 blade razor so I don't have to go over the area more than once, using shaving gel (or even hair conditioner, just something to make the razor glide) and then I follow up with a medicated lotion called Sarna, it's available over the counter, in the pharmacy section.

When it's really bad, as it is now, I use a depilatory lotion, though.

@SeptMomma12: I have a special after shave creme that contains aloe vera and other soothing ingredients that usually helps. But when your legs are really beat up right now maybe stop shaving until it clears up and then try it.

I don't think it is ingrown hairs, I used to get this when I first started shaving. Once the skin is damaged it doesn't take much to irritate it again, I would accept that you will have to wear pants for a week to let your legs recover and then the next time you shave use either emollient or coconut oil during and after shaving and shave in the direction of hair growth until you know it won't happen again. Urgh, I remember how itchy this was, never thought I'd have lovely smooth legs!

@SeptMomma12: you could do both. My sister shaves with it and I'll put it on my skin if it's dry or anything. I use coconut oil for everything haha

@MrsB2012: Shave with the coconut oil or put it on after? How long were your legs like that? It's brutal!

@reese: I can't see ingrown hairs, but there are lots of little bumps where the worst itchiness is, so I'm assuming that's what it is. I've been moisturizing multiple times a day with Cerave (recommended by dermatologist when I mentioned this at my last visit), but it doesn't seem to help

I would get a new razor, maybe splurge for something for sensitive skin and some nice foaming shaving gel.

After the shower I would use some coconut oil.

Try that for a week and see how it does.

I had this a few years ago. I thought that there was something on my razor I was so itchy after. I threw it out and tried a new one but same thing. It was just really dry skin. I started shaving with conditioner until it got better. You can also use coconut oil and try that.

I would try a light exfoliation before shaving. I don't do it on my legs, but that's what usually helps with the bikini area for me.

I am suddenly having a horrible time with what I think have to be ingrown hairs on my legs. I've never had any problem with sensitive skin or shaving, but over the past 6 months or so, my legs are suddenly so itchy after I shave. Like so bad that I constantly have scabs and bloody spots from clawing at them. Now that it's getting warm, I'm embarrassed to wear dresses to work - my legs are more beat up than my toddler's

Any suggestions? I'm going to call the dermatologist, but looking for any ideas at this point.
