A blow-dryer if you don't like having wet hair? Wet hair is a peeve of mine and my hospital didn't supply me with one. I also brought extra hair ties and bobby pins to pull my hair back.

@scg00387: @JessLC: Ooh, shower shoes! Great idea!

And I forgot about leaving room in the bag. They're pretty full, but Hubs hasn't packed his yet. I'll tell him to leave room in his bag. Thanks!

I liked having my own towel. Hospital towels are small and scratchy.

ditto on the flip flops for the shower. nursing pads aren't necessary if you are in the hospital for only a couple days - most women's milk doesn't come in for a few days. i didn't wear any of my own underwear at the hospital - i wore the mesh panties because i was wearing a maxi pad the size of texas and didn't want to ruin my undies. if you wear contact lenses, don't forget your glasses! i did and i couldn't see at night when i didn't have them in. i didn't mind using the gauze as wipes...you just wet them and they work fine. oh also leave extra room in your bag to take all the free stuff....take EVERYTHING!

I wished I had more Medela nipple therapy!! Crappy house shoes you can throw away. My feet were still very swollen after delivering. Wished I brought headbands to keep my hair out of my face.

@scg00387: Oooh, lanolin - great tip! And adult wipes don't sound gross, they sound brilliant! Thank you!

I'd ask your hospital for what they provide ours had wipes and crotch ice packs. I def needed lanolin every nursing session in the beginning and wore their huge mesh undies until a day after I got home. Gum was nice during labor. I also had adult wipes which sound gross but.. The hospital tp was scratchy and I was soo happy to have them!

I wish I had brought cold packs for when I was moved up to recovery. They are really cheap at Target or Walmart. My midwife told me to sit on a cold pack as often as I could, but when I asked for one on the recovery floor they said they didn't have them. Instead, they made one by putting ice in a diaper and I don't think it was as effective. Never heard of wet gauze for wiping.. thankfully they had real wipes.

I'm putting together our hospital bags this weekend (at 37+ weeks - oops). Can you let me know if I'm missing anything or bringing anything unnecessary?

L&D:
-robe, ipod/speakers, birthing ball, slippers, camera/phone and chargers, snacks, pillow, chapstick

Recovery/Maternity:
-yoga pants, nursing tanks, boppy, nursing pads, going home outfit, toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, makeup), sleeping bra, underwear

Am also thinking about bringing wipes because I've read that in the hospital they just use wet gauze to wipe baby, and that wipes are way better?

Anything else? Anything on my list taking up unnecessary space? Hubs will probably also pack his own little bag with change of clothes, etc.
