Does baby have an older sibling? I got this book for my husband's cousin when her second-born was born at 25w. She had a 2.5yo daughter. Net mother told us that big sister loved the book and it really seemed to help her process and not be scares of seeing the baby in the NICU. The link is for My Brother is a Preemie, but they make a sister one, too. https://www.amazon.com/dp/0988294028/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_QtLTwb5984Q0Y

@Torchwood: we didn't have any restrictions on scented things. However we did get a pretty mild scent. Like baby powder or something. Nothing floral!

@schubr03: I'm surprised they let you put an air freshener there. We weren't even allowed to wear anything scented.

Food! Food food food! We have a great hospital with a food court (Taco Bell, subway, ice cream, etc), and I could order anything I wanted from the hospital itself (free food for nursing moms), but sometimes I wanted my own food. Especially in the middle of the night when nothing was available.

Some fuzzy socks or something comforting might be nice.

Google what the closest fast food restaurants are to the hospital and get gift cards to those places. Dad will likely be doing a lot of shuttling and if anyone he will likely hit up those joints. Dollar bills or rolls of quarters for vending. Gas cards. A big zip up hoodie was what I lived in - easy for pumping and nursing and running around the hospital. A nice eye mask for shut eye. Long iPhone charger cord. Really good hand cream for all the hand washing that goes on. A pump bra if she doesn't already have one - I had to hold the flanges and pump at hospital. A good water bottle. A soft blanket.

Maybe you could plan to bring her a home-cooked meal, too, and let her choose the day?

One thing that I really LOVED while I was in the hospital was a plug-in air freshener. After staying in the room for a couple of days, it gets stuffy and smelly. Every single nurse, Doctor, and visitor commented how nice it was to have a fresh smelling room.
I also second any food that is not hospital food.

@Mrs. Lion: I had DS at 34 weeks and here are some of my ideas:
- Preemie clothes (carters has good selection)
- Restaurant gift card
- Healthy snacks
- Water bottle
- Long cell phone charger
- Magazines
- Books to read LO (this was our favorite activity when DS was in the NICU)
- Nipple cream (all the pumping is rough on nipples, lol)

When my SIL delivered early, I mailed a box of easy snacks for home or the hospital. Some healthy, some Oreos  . She really loved it.

A friend of ours is in the hospital and will most likely be having her baby soon. She is almost 34 weeks. I know from my own experience that the best things people brought for me were a good lotion, chap stick, and food that wasn't hospital food! I was wondering though if anyone has other suggestions. I am planning on picking up a couple preemie outfits, since I doubt they have anything that tiny. When it was me I loved having a few teeny outfits that actually fit.

Any other ideas?
