Our hospital has a billion restaurants/take out options, so my DH went daily and got us food to supplement the hospital fare.
But, what I needed immediately was Gatorade. Pack that :)

So - I made my "grocery" shopping list last night and here is what I intend to pick up and have in a bag with our hospital bags (I am expecting to be GBS+ which means 48 hours monitoring for DD):

-La Croix (the skinny cans)
-Coconut Water (4 big cans)
-2 Luna Bars
-2 Kind Bars
-Trail Mix (medium Ball Jar Full)
-Dark Chocolate Covered pretzels (small Ball Jar full)
-ETA - bag of skinny pop!

I also told DH last night my first two meal requests...sushi first then a greek salad and soup. And if dinner happens to be my first meal I want Chilean Seabass from Mitchells....haha - bossy 36w preggo lady!

@JoyfulKiwi: How the heck did you get a cheeseburger and cake?? My hospital served me toast (with nothing on it), canned peaches and tea with no cream or sugar for all meals three days straight.

We typically get let out of the hospital shortly after birth, but due to my kid being born 10 minutes after 11am check out, and then some nursing issues I got stuck there for two days. I had trailmix and somebody brought us cupcakes... I would have killed for a little bit of fresh fruit!

I actually don't think I brought any? My hospital actually had good food, for a hospital. There was also a patient snack room full of snacks and beverages. And I was "sitting month" so my mom brought me all my meals. And I still ate my hospital meals with DH. :P

Someone brought me blueberry muffins from Whole Foods and literally it was the best thing I ate. I still dream about it.

I was induced at 8am and ended up with a csec the next morning at 6am. I wasn't allowed to eat anything until 5pm that night. So basically I didn't eat anything for 30 hours. My husband brought McDonald's into the room to eat for himself and I wanted to kill him

I packed granola bars, protein bars, peanut butter crackers, etc and didn't touch them! But DH did. I found the first week or so after delivery, and especially the first days in the hospital, I just did not have an appetite and felt kind of nauseous, actually. PP hormones maybe.

Now my LO is 5.5 months, EBF and I could eat a horse every day :silly:

I loved the hospital food and also the takeout that DH brought (our hospital is smack in the middle of our neighborhood's hot restaurant district), but I still really appreciated having snacks on hand. We brought coconut water, brownie brittle, and a big Costco tub of chocolate/pecan/caramel clusters. I think those were my favorites, and were great to share with nurses.

I brought granola bars and Kind bars. But I didn't really eat them because the maternity and postpartum wards had refrigerators with snacks in them that they offered profusely. So I would eat a lot of pbj sandwiches, string cheese, jello or pudding cups and ice cream!

GORP, maybe with a few chocolate chips thrown it. Gatorade. If you have access to a fridge (our maternity wing had a family kitchen area) or at least a cooler, I might bring some dry sandwiches (whole grain bread, meat, and cheese), string cheese sticks, and some hardboiled eggs. Every time I've been in the hospital, I've also taken advantage of the little cartons of milk they give you - good nutrition in that and for some reason it tastes so good! And neat fruit - tangerines, bananas, apples.

@JoyfulKiwi: I know ours had some good options (especially breakfast - I usually got someone to deliver lunch and dinner)! I need to just remember to make some healthy decisions!
