@magnolia: oh ha too funny! I’m actually just across the Hudson so I gave birth at englewood but have lots of friends who did NYU, lenox sinai etc. My good friend had her first at NYU and her roommate had just had her 7th kid and wanted no visitors, not even family since she was literally treating recovery as a vacation at that point, haha. She sent the baby to the nursery the entire time). So she lucked out and had a virtually silent roommate!!

Good luck!

@Littlebit7: I actually am in nyc too!!! No guarantee on private room but they are significantly cheaper than other hospitals.

I lucked out with my first and didn’t have a roommate (at NYU).

Thanks to everyone for the questions!

When are you delivering? Will fly restrictions possibly be in place?

Is there a nursery and can you send your baby to it at night or will you get side-eye

Is food provided for Your partner

Where is after hours check in

Can you preregister

Is a private room guaranteed for the mother/baby unit (I’m from the land of nyc no private room guarantees, thus this probably doesn’t apply to you

Can you check out earlier than 48 hours if your doc releases you

I always tell people to ask what level NICU the hospital has and what their time is from decision to baby out for a crash c-section.

I would ask logistic questions

Where do I check in? Where do visitors check in?

Where is triage versus labor rooms.

What happens if you need a c section (where does DH go).

Where is the food? Ice machine?

How to configure/adjust the bed?

Do they have in-network anesthesiologists on call or on the floor? Pediatricians on the floor? How long does it *really* take to call in and receive the epidural? How long do you have to stay vaginal vs C-section? What's their policy for skin to skin, bathing and partners in the room? Can siblings visit?

@magnolia: Do they have baths available to use during labour? Are partners encouraged to sleep overnight, is there space accommodations for them? If it ends up a c-cection, am I able to recover WITH baby?

I’m taking a hospital tour today of the Labor and delivery where I’ll be giving birth

Right now I’m blanking on what I want to ask beside if I should bring my yoga ball or if they have one there. And I want to see the private versus shared rooms

I’ve had a hospital birtth before but at a different hospital so maybe that’s why I can’t think?? Or I’ll blame it on baby brain. Help a mama out...
