Our hospital had a sign on the wall saying they'd be coming in every hour and then had a list of reasons why. It was a little annoying, but we got used to it. It was nice not having to page the nurse very often.

They did this to us too. The most ridiculous one was "WAKING UP DD @ 2AM TO BATHE HER". Eventhough they knew it would take us hours to put her to sleep and they even said she was the fussiest baby in the entire floor since nobody (even pediatrician) could get her to sleep. What upset us the most is that once they were done they just handed her to me and left me with a crying baby.

@Minnie_Girl: I put the sign up but it doesn't help!!

@NYCaliMama: I asked about early discharge and they said no. DD1 was slightly jaundiced so I knew that we should look out for that anyway. And sure enough, they just told me that DD2 is slightly jaundiced so I am glad that they do not let people leave too early.

Just looking for a little bit of peace to recoup before I get home to my 2.5 year old tomorrow. But I know it's a hospital, jobs need to be done, and you can't please everyone!

OMG - I haaaaate that about the hospital stay. The nice thing was that there was a 2 hour "nap" time built in everyday to keep out visitors and nurses. Of course, I couldn't sleep during that time.... The middle of the night wakings were so annoying.

Hope you get to come home soon.

Yes. Yes they are.

I didn't get any rest for three nights because of labor, and for the next two nights I couldn't rest either because of all the freaking interruptions. It's three a.m., why is it necessary to look at my butt and draw blood?

On our last day there one kind nurse finally told us "Oh! Didn't you know about the signs you can put on your door? 'Do not disturb, I'm breastfeeding, I'm pumping?'"

NO. NO ONE TOLD US ABOUT THE SIGNS.

Gaaaaaah. I felt like dying. Never doing that again unless I actually am dying!

I'd rather be bugged every hour than have something go wrong/missed because nobody ever stopped by. It's not a hotel -- but it's a lot more expensive. My money's worth at a hospital is a well-staffed facility with plenty of people on hand to keep and eye on me and my newborn.

We really didn't have this issue. They just checked my vitals at shift change (7 and 7) and came in if they needed the baby for some reason but other than that we only had visits we requested (lactation consultant, me asking for pain meds, etc)

We left the hospital 24 hours after LO was born because all of the interruptions were driving me insane, but when I actually needed something, it was a pain to get someone to come help me!

our hospital was awesome! they had me discharged after 36 hours (I delivered thursday night at 9:27, left saturday morning) but insurance covers a min 48 hours so I really wish I'd stayed another night TBH. they were freakin' fantastic.

I'm sorry to hear about your hospital though! emptying the trash at 10:30 is ridic.

We actually chose to stay an extra day, so we were in the hosptial for 4 days. Daugher was in NICU & our insurance paid for 4 due to me having a c-section, we wanted to be at the hospital so it was easy to go visit her. On days 3 & 4 they didn't bother us at all. They let me sleep and I would buzz if I needed anything, it felt more like a hotel than a hospital stay. The first couple days were really annoying, like every 30 minutes they were in our room bugging us, I got no sleep.

Most hospitals have a policy that patients be checked every hour. It's part of a nurse's job. Overall, it's still a hospital.

haha I don't see it that way, and I didn't birth at posh hospitals or anything. Another girlfriend of mine joke about it... we feel like our hospital stays were "vacations" from mom life at home. I was grateful for the person who takes out the trash and the staffed nursery my baby went to while I needed to rest... It beats doing all that at home myself!

You can always go home early or anytime you want, especially if you delivered without complications. I was actually offered early discharge, but took the "extra" day. Got more rest at the hospital than at home!

I think hospitals can never win. It's their fault if something goes wrong medically and it's their fault too if people can't nap or the food sucks or the trash can builds up...

I seriously hated our hospital stay and it only affirmed why we chose homebirth. I feel pretty confident that our transfer was down prematurely this last time & DH and I both talked and agreed on how we could've handled things differently so as not to have ended up there. Next time it will have to be an emergency for us to go (many emergency cesareans still take longer to set up than the time it would take for me to get to the hospital from our home).

DD2 was born 26 hours ago and I wish we could go home, but of course it's also for our safety to be monitored for another day. *sigh*

They took DD2 for a bath this morning and we said to keep her there if she happens to fall asleep because I really wanted to nap. An hour later, knock knock, oh your baby is asleep and I know you're sleeping but here are your pain meds that you didn't even ask for. I am sleeping. I am not in pain!

The most ridiculous visit was 10:30 pm last night to empty our garbage. That's all they did ... emptied the garbage cans.

Is this another "cover our asses" thing? DH thinks that they just come in every hour for silly reasons just to make sure that nothing fishy is going on.
