Grits and toppings. Grits are inexpensive and you can keep them warm in a slow cooker. Toppings can be bacon, cheese, tomatoes, onions, and more! An easy way to serve lots of people with varying tastes.

@runsyellowlites: They are soooo good! You can get a waffle iron for pretty cheap at bed bath and beyond, especially if you use a coupon. I just got a new one there. Waffles are so easy to make, I make them at least once a week now, so I get my money's worth :)

@runsyellowlites: Yes, you put the fried chicken on a waffle and drizzle syrup on it. My sister had it for an appetizer at her wedding and I fell in love! I've seen it served with comfort food like mashed potatoes and mac and cheese, you could have a fruit salad and/or green salad. Personally I think potato salad would be yummy with it.

@artbee: I have never heard of this! From what I saw it's *just* waffles & chicken? What about sides.... What could everyone else bring? I told DH to have his mom bring potato salad since that's a non-mexican side she can make..... but doesn't seem like that would really go. lol

Chicken and waffles could be brunch. Love chicken and waffles! And yay for using the banner! I like the idea of sending the moms home with flowers or something. Last year my SIL hosted mother's day at her house and she gave all of us moms a mason jar with a couple of flowers in it. Nothing fancy, but it was a nice touch.

@bunnylove08: I think a mocktail might work (none of us drink) & I have lots of mason jars that I can tie with bakers twine!

Any ideas on a specific one?

I think we will probably go for more of a lunch menu as opposed to brunch since I wouldn't know what to pair with fried chicken & potato salad. lol

We don't have any good pics of P (photo booked for the 24th) so I wouldn't have anything to fill the frames with yet.

can you do a signature cocktail/mocktail or recreate a dish from your favorite brunch place. I think it would be cute if you got a picture frame with a picture of LO and each guest?

So, the restaurant that we usually go to for our Mother's Day brunch has relocated & downsized (it's now just a bar) so we needed to come up with a new plan. My mom suggested an outside (maybe inside depending on the weather) potluck here at our house (really it's her house we're renting & she's living where she couldn't host anything) so I agreed & am actually happy doing so.

My mom prefaced that I didn't need to go crazy or need *any* decorations but I told her that I simply could not do that & would do atleast a little SOMETHING. lol I think I have a number of things that I could easily use without an hassle, but thought I'd ask you ladies for some simple ideas to make it special for all us ladies, my grandmother, mom, MIL, and me.

My mom suggested that since she can't make anything she may pick up some fried chicken... I offered her my kitchen & she told me a potluck means people "bring what they want" lol... So I think something we'll probably have things like Chicken, potato salad (my MIL has a pretty yummy recipe) & foods along those lines if that makes a difference.

Here's some twine covered jars & a sweet arrangement my grandmother got me when I had P that I could use as a center piece... and I think I may steal the bunting/banner that @artbee is using for her lo's birthday party. I also still have 3 bags of ribbon that I didn't get to use at P's party!

Any other ideas?
