DH and I have traveled a lot with DD and have decided it is *always* worth the $$$ to get a suite/balcony/whatever that will allow us some space to hang out and enjoy ourselves after DD is asleep. DD does NOT sleep well in the same room as us and a non-sleeping toddler means everyone has a terrible time.

I think an indoor pool might be a plus-- better temperature control so it won't be too cold for her, or too hot outside for enjoy it. Even though in my previous life as a non-mom I'd turn my nose up at it :)

Hope you have fun!

Fun!! We have been on a few trips with our lo to resort type areas and if there is one thing I would do over and over again is get a separate room for her to sleep in. That way you can stay up and have fun. The pool at this age is irrelevant, in my opinion. LO is too young to enjoy it and with the schedule of a 10 month old, there's not much time to spend at the pool. Nor is it fun to just hang out at a pool, in the blazing sun and humidity with a baby. Just from personal experience. :)

@locavore_mama: nooo, it's not as nice as it sounds. I work in public education--we don't get nice stuff, ever!

I got on a book committee (I'm a librarian) that gives out book awards (like a lesser known Newberry, for example) and I get my school about $15000 of brand new, hard cover free books because as a committee member, the publishing companies send the books to me to review. But to stay on the committee (it's a 3 year appt), I have to go to the conference and present the winners in a session. So my school district is giving me the days off and paying for the sub, as well as the conference registration fee. My PTA is paying for my flight, but I have to pay for my hotel out of my own pocket.

So since I'm paying, I figured I might as well make a vacation out of it. Also, I EP and it's just easier to bring LO.

Depends upon how the suite is setup. We stayed at Homewood Suites for a wedding and thought we'd have the option to put DD in the bedroom and still be able to use the living space but in reality the room was still all one big area without any divide except between the kitchen and the living space. Do either have rooms with balconies, perhaps then you could put DD to bed and then hang out on the balcony.

okay, I guess I have my answer!! I was leaning towards the suite, since it has a guaranteed fridge and kitchenette which is convenient for a baby.

For our LO, we would have to go with a suite so she could sleep in the bedroom while we chatted in the living room/parlour. Unless the other hotel is resort-style with an amazing pool, I wouldn't think it's worth it.

I vote suite too!!! I think it will be nice being able to hang out with DH without tip toeing around the one room!

How much time do you really expect your ten month old to use the pool, Ya know?

We stayed in 1 room when DD was an infant/toddler and I wouldn't recommend it.. unless you don't mind sitting in the semi-darkness and staying pretty quiet after your baby goes to sleep.

We booked a suite when we traveled recently and it was really nice to hang out, watch tv, talk, order food, etc. while the kids were asleep in the other room.

Tough call... I'd probably pick the one that you can put LO to bed in a separate room at that age. I know my dd wouldn't sleep if there were any distractions around!

I have a conference coming up in May in New Orleans and we've pretty much planned to make a family trip out of it and bring along my husband and LO. I have a few options for the hotel and bringing them along is changing my priorities..before, I would care most about being close to the convention center and price. Now, since we're making it a short family vacay, I want family friendly and fun for DH and LO while I'm working (a pool for instance).

SO, should I go for one of the all-suites hotels that are not quite as nice (like Embassy Suites, for example) so that we can put LO to bed in the bedroom portion and still be able to stay up watching TV and talking in the living room? They have a pool, but it looks smaller or some of them are indoor pools.

Or should we go for a nicer looking hotel with a better pool area, but all stay in one room? The hotel I'm looking at has a huge pool, lots of chairs, and a bar/snack bar outside.

LO will be 10 months. Price is similar.

What would you choose?
