The problem for us isn't so much the cold as the dark. At the peak of winter it's dark at 3:50 PM, so I really have no desire to take them to the park after school in the dark and cold. Depending on daycare, they probably get an hour or less of outdoor time in the winter. In the summer they go out every day at daycare and we usually stay another hour or more, so maybe 2-3 hours during the week and most of the day on the weekends?

We've had a lovely mild winter here in NY so lucky for DS, he has spent much more time outside not bundled in snow gear!

I'd say during the winter he averages an hour a day outside. Unless it is icy, he usually plays outside even when it's pretty darn cold. More so on warmer days.

In spring/summer/fall we average at least 3 hours outside, or even most of the day if it isn't too hot. We eat our meals outside on the deck, we play in our yard, go to the park, get time down the shore, go to farms. Gosh, I love summer!!!

Compared to where some of you ladies live, winters here are not particularly bitter, but I still tend to plan indoor activities when its cold out! During the week, E gets outdoor time at nursery and with her grandparents, but at weekends the only time she spend outdoors is running to the car. In the summer, though, we are out all day. She loves to potter around the garden, watering plants

We live in the NE so we def stay in way more during the winter. DD is only 15 months; I suspect next winter when she's older we'll have to be out more often. This winter so far, if it's snowing or really cold, we manage staying inside. She's already been sick a ton so I don't really want to make it worse!

DH and I both work outside the home so in the winter we get home and its dark outside so we go straight in - once the day gets longer we tend to come out and play outside right away for at least an hour - maybe even eat dinner outside and then come in just with enough time for bath and bed - my kids sleep so much better when they gets lots of fresh air!

We've been barely doing any. It is so cold and sooo much snow here. When it's a nicer day we get out.

In the summer we are outside almost all morning at the beach or park and again usually after dinner. We just moved to a house with an awesome backyard so I see a lot of time being spent out there this spring, summer, and fall!

We live in a colder area too and it's hard during the winter! We aim for a couple hours a week. Some weeks we are outside for hours each day (last Saturday we were out for five hours straight!) Then other days we run from house to car.

Summer though it's gorgeous here and we are frequently out for four or more hours a day. There are plenty of days we barely go inside. We do a lot of take out during the summer...

We have maybe 2 months a year where it's cold enough that I dread going out (this year it was more mild though) so we usually do about an hour a day in winter, two 30 minute stints. In fall and spring we will spend up to 3 hours outside a day of we arent going anywhere (broken up into 2 to 3 separate play times). It gets hot hot here in the summer but I don't mind it so much so we still will spend 1 to 2 hours outside and I push water

If you had to estimate time spent outside in the winter vs the summer (or fall/spring), how do the seasons compare?

We live where it is cold more than it is warm, so getting outside is harder. LO1 goes outside for 20 minutes a day at school, and then both girls will go out occasionally to play in the snow. But it's not even close to as much as it is in the warmer months. Some days it's not at all. The other day though it was in the upper 50's and they spent almost 3 hours outside. When it warms up we will be out daily, and in the summer a good portion of the day.
