Yikes, these are some crazy stories!!!

The weirdest house we saw was a short sale, home had been left for a while, and the back yard had gone wild and overtaken everything, there was supposedly a patio and a pool, but it was all covered. Inside parts were nice, but layout was crazy, and it was super super dated, bathrooms were from the 50s and there were like 6 or more bathrooms in this 2500 sq foot house which was SO weird.... It was just bizarre. A major project.

The house we just bought has black mirrored everything: mantle/fireplace, backsplash, and kitchen island. My husband was there today and remarked when he came home that "it's ugly." Luckily, the fixes are cosmetic and fairly easy. We're going to rip up the downstairs floors and put in hardwood or wood laminate.

We looked at one small apartment complex to purchase and 2 of the units were fine, but the 3rd....the tenant had a baby, a toddler and dogs and there was piles of dog crap EVERYWHERE- in the baby's & toddler's room, next to their toys, etc. there was also lighters and a bong out on the table. We didn't buy that property and our agent called CPS and reported the tenant :meh:

We looked at one house that was an estate sale. The entire interior was straight out of the 1950s. The decor probably hadn't changed since then, it still had the old appliances, etc. we went to the basement and hurriedly discussed how we were going to get out because it felt like the old woman who had lived there was still there and had died in the house. Then we walked up to the kitchen and the smell of rotten meat hit us. The realtor had opened the fridge and apparently the family hadn't cleaned it out.

We got the eff out of there.

We viewed a house that was being rented out. The current tenants were legit hoarders. We weren't able to go into three of the four bedrooms, and they had ripped the flooring out of some of the rooms, and every single room was packed to the max. We were only able to get through the house via a narrow pathway. It smelled of cat urine. The house was soooo nice too, and they just destroyed it. The owner was with me and my realtor to show it, and it was the first time they had seen it. (Long story but house was not on market yet.) The look on the owners face was horrible. I felt so bad for them.

@lovehoneybee: Ew. That reminds me of a house we saw once. The basement had two rooms with locks on the outside of the doors. And there were drawings on the walls inside the rooms. Nope.

We looked at a place that we liked until we got to the basement...in the crawlspace there was a sleeping bag, pillow, small fan, and Playboy! We noped the eff out of there!

One house had a literal drawbridge (no water) but the wood driveway could be lifted up. The house was on a cliff. There was a spiral staircase and indoor sauna. I'm pretty sure it was haunted.

One house we saw was currently being rented and the tenants ran a rabbit "rescue" in the basement. There were rabbits and guinea pigs roaming around the entire space. It was totally disgusting to say the least!

A toilet that had been used without realizing the water was turned off. It was awful. We bought the house anyway.

A shed, like legit shed with someone living in it. You could see between the boards inside! Yet it had cable running to it.

What are some crazy things you have seen while house hunting?

Today I went to see a house. My agent and I walked up into the walk up attic. I got.to the top, looked down, and there's a squirrel. Sitting. Staring at me. I screamed. My agent screamed. We turned tail and ran downstairs. And the squirrel ran, too. All I could.imagine was this squirrel jumping onto my head. We're not buying that house.
