We tried keeping the kitchen super clean, the little plastic ant poison things, bug spray, vinegar, bleach, all to no avail. But borax worked.</p> <p>Buy a box of borax, you can find it in the laundry aisle. Mix borax with powdered sugar, in equal parts, add a dash of water to make a thin paste. My MIL has been catching (and releasing to another location) racoons so they've stopped bugging us so much but my husband's uncles extremely well behaved dog decided that she would make up for the missing racoons and ransacked our trash tonight. And DH is forever running around with a can of Raid. We live near agriculture and wetlands so lots of rats and mice in the area, plus so many mosquitoes and spiders!!! At least we have a healthy predator population - lots of owls and hawks and Falcons around except sometimes they drop dead birds in the yard!!! We have fruit trees too so the birds are always living it up and squawking in the summer. Ugh.
