My house was full of 'unspoken' rules. We had to have an after school snack RIGHT when we got home, or else it was too close to dinner, and we had to ask before we ate something (in case Mom was saving it for dinner/a party). This was a foreign rule in DH's house, and even now he laughs at me. I'll be starving at like 4:45 and asking when dinner is, and he'll tell me to eat something. Then I go to the fridge and am like "Hey, can I eat this _____?"
He's like...."I'm not your mother. Eat whatever, whenever you want." Lol.
Old habits die hard.

We eat dinner at the kitchen table as a family. No TV, no radio, we all talk about our day.
We had to eat most of our meal - that included veggies. If we did not eat our meal, it was put in the fridge and if we were hungry later, that is what we got. GROSS!
We didn't really need a lot of other rules other than the standard, no talking back, no cursing and no being rude.

We didn't have an established list of rules, but the pretty much standard rule was: "Do what we say the first time, without arguing." And believe me, my parents told us to do all kinds of stuff! It just changed from day to day, situation to situation. We did have chore charts when we were younger but as we got older we were just asked to do certain chores when my mom wanted them done.

I definitely want to have established house rules for our kids. I feel like then, you don't have to "get on" your kids about things you want them to do.

Ummmm.....none. we had the obvious treat everyone with respect kind of things. We were pretty good kids so they didn't have to worry about us too much.

What rules did your parents have for you when you were young?

For me, whenever my dad came home we had to stop what we were doing and greet him at the door. Also, I had to keep my room clean. And when I was in high school, I had to vacuum the house before I was allowed to go out on the weekend.

What rules did you have?
