@Rainbow Sprinkles: I sometimes get EWCM twice in my cycle. Once around ovulation and then again right before my AF is going to start (like say 2 or 3 days before). It doesn't always happen but sometimes.

@TurtleDoves: oh good to know.

Obviously it wouldn't be a huge deal if we got pg right now which is why we are being so lax about bc. I remember when I got pregnant it was after I noticed EWCM for the very first time (two weeks prior to my BFP) and I had never had it before while I was on birth control, so it was super obvious. So I was thinking that I would just abstain during the times I noticed it.

For me it was THEE INDICATOR- big time. The only time I ever had ewcm *after* I ovulated was the cycle I actually got pregnant (hint,hint?)
Just FYI: My doctor told me the 2 best indicators are ovulation a tests and ewcm (temp, cervical position and timing are all weak indicators of O).

@Rainbow Sprinkles: It's possible to have it multiple times in one cycle, like if your body gears up to ovulate and then doesn't and then goes through the process again, or some people have a patch of EWCM just before AF. Unless you chart and confirm that you've ovulated you can't assume that EWCM=ovulation or vice versa!

@Rainbow Sprinkles: No, it wouldn't be a good indicator for preventing at all. I mean, it would ever so slightly lessen the changes I guess but not really. I hardly ever get full on EWCM, so glad to hear @mrsjyw: didn't really have it when she got her BFP.

When I was charting to prevent, I was temping and only considered us 'safe' 3+ days after the thermal shift. But I understand temping with a 6 month old would be tough to impossible.

II guess in my head I was thinking "oh we just wont have sex when I have EWCM" but It looks like that really isn't going to help prevent pregnancy!

@Rainbow Sprinkles: same! Mine is really sporadic at times. Sometimes it is more noticeable at the time of O, like quite a bit for a few days. Any other time it's not as much, just a little here and there.

@mrsjyw: does that mean when you actually did ovulate you wouldn't have EWCM during that time?

it wasn't a very indicator for me. while my longish cycles averaged to be the same length each month, my EWCM changes were sporadic.

So twelve days ago I had very obvious EWCM for two or three days and thought to myself "hm, I must be ovulating."

Well, now I have it again, and still haven't ended my cycle (haven't gotten my period again yet). Do some people have EWCM even when they are not fertile? Is it normal to get it multiple times in one cycle?

I haven't ever TTCed so I am not an expert on this stuff. I have a six month old and we aren't currently using protection.
