It is off for me too, I'm pretty sure I am underpaid, and salary.com is basically confirming that I get paid what a person a level below me should be paid. Frustrating :(

I'm pretty sure salary.com gets info from people who enter it, ie complete random sample. It's likely more accurate for positions where more people enter their data. I was using it during a salary negotiation this winter and I think data was based on only 1 person's entry and ended up being way off.

It also depends on geography - if you can find a salary range for your area of the country, that will show completely different results from the national average. Places like San Francisco, NYC, and Boston have something like 20% average higher salary than the national average because of COL and I saw that reflected in the offer I ended up getting; it was around that much higher than what they said was median on the site. I'm not particularly over-qualified (it was my first job in this particular field after doing a career change) so I believe it's a combination of lack of good data and regional differences.

Oh my gosh it was soooo wrong for my husband's job! It says he should be making DOUBLE what he is making right now. Man, I wish :)

Then I looked at the same position but as an "associate" or "assistant" to his field, and it still says over $10k more than what he makes.

It's nice to see that so many of you are making more than what they say is average! It is not accurate for me, but in the other direction - I am below the 10% line! I am underpaid, but not by THAT much. For DH's job, he's at about 25%, which I would say is pretty accurate since he works for a non-profit.

I get a combo of salary and commission. For just my salary I'm slightly above the median, but my salary plus my commission puts me off of their chart, so I'm not sure what to think.

It's off for me. I'm off the charts for my current title and in the 75th percentile for the rank above mine (I'm in biotech so it just goes I, II, III), and I'm fairly certain I'm underpaid.

Seemed pretty accurate for me. I'm a Software Engineer and my salary is right near the median of what it predicted.

It looks pretty spot on for me, but I'm paid hourly as a contractor so my salary looks different than it would if I were a full time employee. Also, I work in nonprofit so numbers are skewed downward for me :)

As for Wagon Sr., he's also in nonprofit so numbers are pretty skewed as well!

It's wrong. I just got access to careerbuilder's newer version of current data for salaries, worker availability, etc. so Wall me if you'd like to look something up for you.

Wow, I asked this on WB and got a total of 0 responses so I'm hoping people here can provide some insight!

I'm wondering how accurate the salary ranges are on salary.com. I just checked it for my position and I think it must be wrong. It says that the median salary for my position is about 20% less than what I currently make, putting me above the 75th percentile. As much as I'd like that to be true, I just know that it isn't based on what I've heard from friends and coworkers.

Is it possible that it's accurate and I'm just hearing false information from people? My job is very unique and specific and the description I chose was dead-on. I'm even at the low end of experience, so if anything I was being conservative. I also chose the right location, so it definitely isn't geography.

Does anyone know where the website gets its data from? Has anyone else checked the site and thought it was wrong?
