Don't worry, @Arden! If I recall correctly, you didn't gain a single pound until like 16 weeks, right? Your body is just catching up to 'normal', most likely. If your doc/midwife isn't worried, I wouldn't worry.

I've gained 30 pounds in 34 weeks and they're fine with it. But 7.5 in one week is a lot -- your scale might be off, or it can be a pre-e sign (sorry, not to freak you out). If you're concerned, you can always call your doctor. But if you think about it, if you gain a pound a week, that's 40 pounds, which is only slightly above the "normal" range, and if you've gained 27 pounds at 28 weeks, then you're on that type of track. As long as you're staying healthy, baby is growing, and it isn't attributed to any other issue, try to relax about it.

Try not to fret ! I had weeks where I gained a lot then weeks where I didn't gain at all. I'm 37 weeks this week and have gained 30 lbs so far. Everyone gains differently but don't let a jump on the scale freak you out !!! I think it just happens sometimes !

The same thing happened to me--I gained most of my weight in the 1st and 2nd trimesters, and then in the 3rd trimester it began to slow a lot. I was nervous I would continue to gain the entire time at such a fast pace...but at the end, I hardly had any appetite! I worked out every day of my pregnancy except 3...even the day I went into labor. It was tough to see the scale move up so quickly, but I knew I was doing what my body needed--eating well, exercising, and treating myself to the occasional oreo (or 7). I didn't stay in the 25-35 range either by a long shot...but I trusted my body knew what was best, and at 15 weeks post partum I have just 10 lbs to lose. Please be kind to yourself and know you are doing what is best for your baby!

I had weeks in the 3rd tri where I gained more (once 4lbs in a week- um whaaaat?) and other weeks I wouldn't gain or even lost a pound...By the time it was over, my net weight gain was exactly 30 lbs. So don't get discouraged! You could not gain anything for a couple of weeks or something...And still be totally in the 25-35 camp!

I noticed my scale is several pounds off from my midwife's. Hers is higher which sucked when they weighed me in front of Dh. I think it was honestly almost 5 pounds, from my home or gym scales. So I bet it is that.

I'd guess that your scale is off if you're not swelling. I gained 10 lbs in one week at the end, but it was because of serious swelling and there was no mistaking it. Unless you suddenly ( like in the week you believe you gained 7 lbs) can't fit into some of your clothes or shoes, I'd guess you weighed incorrectly.

I gained a lot of weight around that time too. I kept gaining in the following weeks, but the pace slowed. At the end, I weighed almost 40 lbs over my pre-preg weight. At 3 months pp, I was 7 lbs over my pre-preg weight.

I've noticed my scale is always about 3lbs off from the Dr.'s office so I try to mentally add that in every time I weigh myself. I've noticed in the past 3 weeks I've been gaining weight at a shocking rate too! I don't think I've been eating differently, maybe just the body is holding on to more of it as baby gets bigger?
From my appt. yesterday and 2 weeks ago, their scale said I gained 7lbs! I was SHOCKED but (I was wearing a coat and boots, etc. - too cold to take them off) the Dr. said it was probably only like 3lbs. She also mentioned I'm probably starting to swell and retain water by the 3rd tri, so maybe that's what's happening to us?

P.S. I found this cool breakdown of pregnancy weight gain on Baby Corner. I didn't know that so much of it was blood & fluids & "maternal fat & nutrients!"

Where Does All This Weight Gain Go?
Here is a breakdown of where you can expect the extra pounds to go:
Baby	7-8 pounds
Placenta	1-2 pounds
Amniotic fluid	2 pounds
Uterus	2 pounds
Maternal breast tissue	2 pounds
Maternal blood	4 pounds
Fluids in maternal tissue	4 pounds
Maternal fat and nutrient stores	7 pounds

I agree with @softcream: my scale was always slightly off from the doctor's. But honestly I wouldn't worry too much either way. I'm a big believer that each person will gain what they need to sustain a healthy pregnancy. As long as you aren't eating a bunch or crap you'll be fine. My best friend gained SIXTY SEVEN pounds with her second pregnancy and was back to her size zero self in no time.

@travelgirl1: I've had the flu this week, so I've been snacking in order to not vomit (empty stomach makes me nauseated). But most of my snacks have been pretty healthy! Salads, 100% juice, yogurt, etc.
I don't have any swelling that I've noticed (shoes still fit, etc).

I was exactly the same, although I think it was probably from eating junk in the first tri just to stop the sickness. Someone told,me the other day that your body puts on what it thinks it needs and I liked that way of looking at it :) Do you have any swelling? Could a lot of it be water?

At my 27 week appointment, I found out I'd gained 20 pounds already. I was kind of surprised, but I was still in the range of normal so I wasn't worried about it.
Today, at 28 weeks 5 days, I weighed myself and found out I'm *27* pounds up from pre-pregnancy. I gained 7 pounds in a week and a half. Holy...

How is this happening? I know my diet isn't fantastic, but it isn't THAT bad.

At this rate there's no way I'm going to stay in the suggested "25-35" range.

Suggestions? Ack.
