@Bookworm: It DOES get easier, I promise!! Just keep trying to do EASY if you can. I would put Xander down for nap in his swing at night because he was always content there, but he hardly ever actually fell asleep!

@Adira: your evenings sound a lot like mine right now... Around dinner time she just refuses to go down. I feed her, she naps for like ten mins, then is screamy hungry. She's started to do that in the morning as well. Blegghh.

Looks like I have a ways to go before she starts being predictable ;)

I didn't/don't breast feed so for us she ate every 3 hours by 4 weeks and still does now at 14weeks, but her nap schedule doesn't exist. She doesn't have a consistent daily routine since she goes to my inlaws, my moms or stays with her dad at home depending on the day. But, bedtime she put herself on a schedule around 2 months and has been consistent every night since then.
Goes down anywhere from 8 to 10 and sleeps til 5 to 7am.

We're at 6.5 and like @Smurfette, only bedtime is predictable. She naps and eats at different times every day. We have a routine (she generally eats every 2-3 hours depending on naps, and naps about every 2-3 hours). I think she's dropping her 4/5pm ish nap, which might help scheduling all around. I'm hoping.

My daughter is a creature of routine and has been since about 4 weeks, she needs to go sleep at this time & eat at this time or she becomes a bear! We have to work with it to keep our sanity.

@Mrs Green Grass: That was with a totally baby led schedule. Some babies clearly take better to parental direction in terms of their schedules, some won't stand for it.

@Bookworm: I think that's why I had a hard time with EASY in the very beginning. I was also really confused with EASY because it implied that Xander should be going down for a nap after being awake for an 1-1.5 hours, and he was always awake for SO MUCH LONGER. But during the day, he would usually be awake for about two hours. So he'd wake up, eat, we'd play for, and I'd put him down for a nap around 1.5/2 hours after waking up, and he'd nap for maybe 30 minutes if I was lucky. Then we'd repeat.

But in the evening, all bets were off. He would NOT nap after 5:00 and would be awake for 4-5 hours! So I couldn't do EASY then. I would just try to feed him every 2 hours or so in the hopes of "cluster feeding" and tanking him up for the night. Eventually he started falling asleep earlier and earlier in the evening and now he's usually asleep by 7:30!

Good luck to you!!! :)

We are on a sort-of predictable schedule at 4 months. He naps around the same times each day but not so exact as I could make solid plans around them. Goes to bed at the same time and wakes up around the same time. Although we are going through a regression right now and things are a bit out of whack.

we sent LO to daycare at 12 weeks, so around 8 weeks i tried to get him on a schedule. when we sent him to daycare, feedings stayed on schedule (although we changed it later on), but naps flew out the window. i think it makes sense that you want to start now, but don't too hard on yourself--your LO if young, and your LO will find (or in the case of my LO, *not* find) a rhythm at daycare.

@Adira: I think EASY is what we are going to try. If I remember right, Xander was super awake all the time, right? How did you work that? The way DD works, she's awake for sooo long that she's usually hungry again before her nap!

4 1/2 months and we still don't have a schedule, other then her bedtime every night. She wakes up at different times every single day. Yesterday she woke up at 530, so I kept her up after nursing since we leave at 650 for day care. Then this morning I had to wake her up at 620, to nurse and change her.

I started taking 8:15am barre classes and E fell into a MORNING routine really well, because she was at the daycare there. Then the rest of the day after lunch was hit and miss until about week 8 or so....then it was getting predictable....and then it was shit for the week my mom was in town (she messed up the feeding routine and everything) and it took me a week to fix that....so then at week 11, everything really started to fall into place. She fell into a SERIOUS routine while at regular daycare, though. Naps, food, everything. My friend's LO started daycare at 6 weeks and he's pretty predictable except in the evening and at night.

I didn't have to send Xander to daycare until 12 weeks, but I started doing EASY around 3 weeks and while that first week or so was kind of confusing, by 5-6 weeks, we definitely had a set routine that was pretty predictable! It wasn't a set schedule, but almost one! It'll definitely help you get an idea of what your LO's schedule will look like though!

LO is three weeks old today, yay! I'm starting to wonder how and when I should start implementing a loose schedule for her. Right now I'm EBF on demand, and her "routine" seems to change every day. Right now, I'm totally ok with that! She's still so teeny, and I don't mind all the cuddly time :)

That being said, she will start daycare at 8weeks and I won't be able to feed her on demand... I assume I'll need to be feeding her at somewhat regular times so that I can send X amount of pumped milk etc. I'll also be nursing her at lunch, so that's a fixed feeding time.

So I guess my question is, if you had to send your LO to daycare at an early age, did you implement any sort of routine before hand? Did you let daycare figure it out? Did you just wing it?
