@sunny: we got an allergy test done when DD was 22-months bc she's allergic to peanuts and we wanted to see if she had any other allergies we should be aware of. we took her to a lab where they drew her blood, and the results came back within a few days.

we took our ped's advice and requested an appointment with their "best blood drawer for kids".

charlie had a pin prick test on his back (like 80+ pricks) when he was 9 months old for environmental allergens. he wasn't allergic to anything.

We had a blood test done at 13 months and 20 months. My LO is allergic to milk, eggs, and peanuts (all of which I had exposure him to before and seen his reaction). According to the two tests, there is a chance that he may outgrow the milk and egg allergy. Testing for us helped tremendously because cutting those foods out of his diet improved his eczema.

If it is necessary they will likely do a blood test and possibly the skin tests (back and reconfirm on arms). As @T.H.O.U.: said though, typically they are not recommended under the age of 2. Our pediatric allergist did have my son tested (both blood work and skin tests) around 18 months though as the medications and other things that were safe for his age just weren't cutting it and we were wanting to know if there was something we could do to prevent the major issues he was having (luckily no food allergies, just environmental for him) and what our pediatric dentist indicated.

I was told that they aren't tested for allergies until the age of two because they are constantly growing in/out of allergies.

I think my LO has a mild allergy to butternut squash. She broke out in a rash after having squash yesterday, though I wasn't 100% sure that was the problem. It cleared after about 45 min.

Today she broke out in another rash right after having another serving of butternut squash so I'm pretty sure thats the problem. No wheezing or trouble breathing though, so I think its mild.

Does your baby have allergies to any foods and how are food allergies tested at this age? How do we know when they grow out of the allergies?
