@looch: What about scheduling events in advance and at odd hours? It could mainly be a work schedule or planning issue for many parents. Some parents come out for certain events but not others because of scheduling.

Right now, DH is chaperoning a fieldtrip on a day that's good for him but that's it for this year so far. We were more involved at preschool stage.

@looch: I've volunteered in the classroom for the "scientist in the school" program with my 5 month old. I'm off on a year long mat leave so I have the time but have to pick and choose because of the baby. I'm hoping to volunteer once in a while next year by taking a couple hours off work periodically.

@looch: I joined the PTA and participate in activities that way. We haven't been offered opportunities to volunteer in the classroom other than field trips. To be honest, I SAH but I have a 2-year-old and it's not always easy to volunteer during the day because often the volunteer slots conflict with the 2-year-old's preschool drop-off/pick-up or I can't bring the toddler to the elementary school event and we don't have a daytime babysitter. It's been disappointing because I had hoped to be more involved but it seems easiest to do if you SAH and your kids are all in full-day school somewhere.

Just what the title says...do you volunteer as part of the PTO, do you participate in the classroom? I am specifically interested in elementary school, not daycare or preschool, so kinder (JK,TK included ) and up.

I am curious, as it seems that I see the same moms over and over again at the school and I am wondering if there is a way we can get other parents involved.
