The first half week I was alone with the kids and we were all sick. It was miserable! DH has been home this past week and we have been recovering and visiting with family, celebrating Christmas and New Year's. Having all the new Christmas gifts has helped. They go back to school on the 5th so we'll see how this upcoming week goes with DH back at work. I think we'll need to plan play dates and luckily some of their activities resume before school.

I'm losing it. We've had two healthy days since "vacation" started on the 21st. I am so lonely. I've canceled all the plans we've made. I really hope LO2 is better by Tuesday so he can go back to daycare. I can't take any more of this isolation.

It's awwwwwful! The weather here is rotten - cold rain. All the indoor options are super crowded. DD has been off since 15th Dec and doesn't go back until the 4th Jan. I'm going out of my mind.

I'm a teacher so when I'm home, she's home. Honestly, I've loved it. She is so much fun and I'm loving just hanging with her. She just turned 2.

Our daycare is shut for three weeks so we've tried to do something every second day. We've had play dates, been to the park, done a road trip to a new beach, gardened, gone out for a lunch and been to a potluck bbq.

We've been off since the 23rd. DH went back to work out of town on the 27th.

We left LO with the in laws on the 25th and went hiking on the 26th. LO and I went sledding on Tuesday, skating with my brother and his wife on Wednesday, the zoo on Thursday, play date for LO and pedi/mani for me on Friday and today we're chillin. Tomorrow I think we'll bake something and play outside. And I have no idea about Monday.

We've been mostly winging it. I'm truly surprised at how well it's going. I made vague plans with a few friends and everything fell into place.

I'm pulling my hair out. Little miss bossy pants has been behaving really badly the last few days and refusing to sleep at night. I cannot wait to send her back to school Tuesday!

Honestly, it has been amazing! I feel like my kids are at a great age (4 and almost 3). They play independently well for extended periods of time and they play well together. I don't have to do much entertaining and get a lot done around the house. They also are great to go out with and well behaved, so it's a really enjoyable period of life for me. It's going to be hard going back to work!

I think going on vacation for part of the time is great, I mean, who wants to be at home, and I for sure hate going anywhere that is going to be super crowded. We went to the movies yesterday afternoon and it was packed.

I have my parents if i need a break, but my son loves to do stuff. He could care less about seeing friends and whatnot but he loves to be busy. It's hard to plan for stuff without spending a ton of money, that's my other issue, lol.

Yeah I can feel ya. We were away for 4 days (me, DH, 2 ds's) which was a lot (parties & family & in the car a to ), then I had the boys on my own for 3 days which was tiring!! Especially since activities were not happening we were sorta stuck at the house!

Both of my LOs (1 school aged, 1 in daycare) are off for 2 weeks at the holidays. I took off both weeks and my husband is taking off one week. We were home the first week and are traveling this second week. Where we are, there is no day camp or organised care option at all. I think most working parents just plan ahead and take off or find family care if some sort (or a babysitter). We didn't do that much while at home. We would go out maybe once a day to the park or to have lunch with my DH or have a play date, but honestly, my kids, especially the older one, were happy to just play at home without having to rush to go somewhere or do something.

@Corduroy: In a way I think it would have been better if DH is at work this week! It will force us to be more structured, at least we can go visit him for lunch. Right now I feel so disoriented.

My kids aren't school age but preschool was closed the 21st-3rd and we're feeling it. DH took this week off to watch the LOs. Now he's asking for a week long overseas trip with friends. So I guess it's been rough. Next year, day camp.

This is more for those who have the entire 2+ weeks off for school. How are you surviving the winter holidays?

Our school was closed since Dec 17, and school resumes on Jan 3.... and I have to say this has been quite a difficult journey! I guess we didn't plan it well (and I thought I did, which is the problem). We did fine during Thanksgiving, so I undermined this long one. We were on an overseas trip from 19th to 24th, and basically stayed home since. We were dead tired for the first few days we were back, and DS was focused on playing with his new toys he got from Christmas for a few days, and it was fine. He started getting bored on Wednesday 28, and I had so many things I wanted to do (and I am still super tired) and I didn't feel like taking him out. I only have one child, so he constantly nagged and want me to stay and play with him, which I really don't because I have other things I want to do around the house. Finally I asked my neighbor to drop off his kid over and they played an hour. Today we went out with a friend to the aquarium, which was super crowded, and came home and dropped DS off to my neighbor for an hour before dinner. Tomorrow my friend and her DS is coming over for New Year's Eve dinner. Still, I wish it was structured better so we (I, haha) won't be so miserable. I can't wait for school to start on the 3rd!

How are you surviving the holidays? Are you pulling your hair our like me or are you enjoying the time you are having with your family? What did you do / plan to make your holidays go smoothly? Did you drop your child off to a day camp of some sort so you can get some time for yourself? I need tips so I can be better equipped for the next winter.....!
