We eat according to the Simple Quad method - 25% protein, 25% carbs, 25% raw veggies, and 25% cooked veggies. We always include a small portion of fat with every meal -- olive oil in dressing, butter on bread, coconut oil in entree, etc. and use fruit as an appetizer or dessert.

We eat mostly vegetarian so I make sure we have a complete protein (il.e. lentils+rice) and we always have lots of veggies either in the form of side dish or often a salad.

meat n' veggies. DH tries to stick with paleo type foods. I try to but don't feel bad if I don't. Last night I made lamb curry and had mine with rice, while dh had cauliflower rice. If we have tacos, I'll have mine in a soft tortilla and dh will use a lettuce wrap.

@HabesBabe: DS is a fan of veggie purees, but I hope this will continue to be true for when he eats "solid" veggies later on also!

@Alivoo01: This is us, too! Well, except LO is taking on her daddy's eating habits and she's not a huge fan :( We both want her to enjoy veggies, though, so I try to make something once a week that I can serve alongside dinner during the week.

Protein plus starch. DH hates veggies while I love it, but he complains it "stinks up the house" when I cook it so I don't. Now that we have DS, I refuse to let DH's preferences guide DS so I will be cooking veggies!! Plus, DS LOVES veggies!

@Andrea: us too!

Always meat. Always veggies. Rarely is there any grain in there because DH doesn't care for it (he's take it or leave it) and my body can't handle it (I'll get fat like *that*).

My will do a steak with sautéed broccoli and possibly a baked potatoe...we will do grilled shrimp and salad with some zucchini slices maybe.
Sometimes we will have just lasagna because DH does like that but it is so rare.

They're not really structured, I grew up in an Italian household where you had a two course dinner every night. First came the pasta, and usually not with tomato sauce, then came the protein and vegetables.

Now, we have either pasta or protein/vegetables, but not two courses.

@snowjewelz: YES! I wonder if that is it?? haha Growing up there is always a meat dish, fish dish, veggie dish and of course a bowl of rice. haha And yeah homemade soup. Maybe this is why I balk at the idea of canned soup and soup made with boxed broth.

ETA: I have NO idea how my mom did that working 12-13 hour days, 7 days a week!

My fall back meal is tossing some protein (usually ground turkey, chicken, or chicken sausage) with a bag of frozen vegetables and serve with rice or pasta. I've tried to do meatless meals before, but DH really prefers meat or at least some eggs.

Growing up in a Chinese family it's def ingrained to always have carb (rice), protein & vegetables.

Since my DH cooks, a lot of times veggies tend to be missing. He'd either cook all meat/carbs, or go on a veggie binge and make us eat salad for a few days!

It might be a one pot or bowl meal but we always try to have a protein of meat/seafood/fish, vegetable and almost always a starch.

ie tonight is chicken breast with swiss chard and possibly sweet potatoes.
If I'm doing noodle soup I usually use shrimp, noodles and add whatever veg I have on hand.
If we're doing soup it always has a form of protein + veggies. Soup is always accompanied by some kind of sandwich because we'll starve if we just eat soup! LOL
