Around that time, my LO wouldn't sleep longer than 2 hours at a time. She settled down at 8 weeks!

Good luck!! Hope your LO sleeps better soon!

Charlotte had a nightmare 6 week growth spurt that started at 5 weeks and she did the same thing. I finally let her cry a little and she would fall asleep on her own in less than 5 minutes. It was the only way I could get her to sleep during the day and I was at my wits end. She's almost 12 weeks now and it's gotten way better.

Hopefully she calms down soon!

Update: baby was up all night. She is now sleeping in her car seat and it is the first time she has slept in over 11 hours. How is that even possible?

DD's 6 week growth spurt, which she had early at 5.5 weeks, was the worst! She ate every 45m-1h AROUND THE CLOCK! Even through the night. All her other growth spurts were just perma-nursing through the day but that one really did me in. I spent the whole next day in bed with her just sleeping and nursing. lol

Hope you eventually got some sleep.

I've heard from a lot of mothers that weeks 6 is a *crazy* week. Baby is going through a cognitive jump and a growth spurt around this time, and it makes them act nutso. Hopefully your baby will calm down a bit in another few days, once the week 6 crazies have passed.

Tyler rarely sleeps 16 hours a day. He just doesn't sleep that much despite all of my encouraging. But, yesterday was ridiculous - finally I topped him off with a bottle, swaddled him, did some sshing and put him in the swing and he slept for 3 hours. Do you swaddle during the day? If not, that might help.

@Mrs. Superhero: HAHAHAHAH. Hear, hear.
@Mrsdaredevil: I'm so sorry! M is like that and I don't wish it on anyone! Has your LO always been this way? Mine has and I've decided she just does not need as much sleep as the normal baby. Thursday she did not go down for nap ALL day. Every time my mom would go put her down she would wake up eyes wide open. The time my mom spent rocking her WAS her nap time! Yesterday I was home and she did not go down till 3pm for her first nap of the day. But it's very common for her to not nap at all during the day then not sleep till 11pm. It was SO frustrating those early weeks because I would spend all day trying to get her to sleep thinking she HAD to get those magical "16-20" hours of sleep. I think when our ped told us that it's ok she's not getting 16-20 is when I relaxed a bit.

That was like my 11 week old when he was around that age too. He'll only sleep when someone's holding him. He'll cry as soon as you put him down. Babies do fuss when they are tired too. He usually cries like crazy from minutes to just seconds before he passes out on my arms. One trick that helps him fall asleep while being rocked is when I walk around while bouncing him up and down with my legs. It's tiring but he'll fall sleep. I do the same at night and swaddle him tight. I just see it as he gets some rest and I get some exercise. I'm lucky, so far, that he sleeps through the night and has been. Just a lot more difficult during the day. Hope you find relief soon as he gets older.

I think it stems from being overtired. My son is like this to this day...he's 18 months. The more tired he is, the longer it takes him to fall asleep.

babies can be fussy when they're sleepy, too. i didn't know, and kept trying to change/feed/burp/wam/cool the fussy LO and he didn't sleep!
now i always see if i can force him to sleep. it doesn't always work.
lately i'll put him NEAR the boob and give him a paci if he ate, got changed, got burped, got swaddled, and still hasn't stopped fussing

My baby has not slept ALL day. She has maybe had a few fifteen minute snoozes but that is it. Now, it is 11:00 at night and she is still refusing to go down. She wakes up every time I set her down, and is abnormally fussy. Her eyes are all red because I know she is exhausted. She is 5.5 weeks old.

How can a baby just not sleep? I mean, she has to go down eventually right?
