Having "me" time has really helped me in staying patient. When I don't have that time, every little thing makes me crazy when it comes to my husband and LO. I told my DH that my crossfit classes and yoga are absolutely non negotiable and we have to make the time work. I've felt much better since then.

I wish I knew :( the worse time for me is trying to get out the door with two kids. I get in panic mode just thinking about it.

Yoga has helped me! Even if all I can do is fit in 5 or 10 minutes the calming breathing, the focus, the quiet and the physical release really help me get my perspective back. I try to go to that place in my mind and take a few deep steady breaths when I feel myself getting worked up. I am kind of high strung & tend to be a little on the fiery side so while I don't think I'll ever be able to be described as a peaceful person (and I've accepted that) I have really used yoga (and prayer and scripture) to help keep things from escalating.

If LO is throwing a fit or the day is taking a bad turn I always try to remember that I am the adult and I have the power to let the situation continue on wwith bad energy or I can focus brightness and good energy into a bad situation. The day may still end up not going great but maybe I stayed calm instead of screaming at LO or DH and that's still a win to celebrate.

Somebody posted a poem on here about how there'll be a last time for everything and I try to think of that.

LO having a tantrum? There'll be a last time he throws a tantrum. Flips around and gets poop everywhere during a diaper change? There'll be a last time I change his diaper. Whining and following me through the house? There'll be a last time he'll want to be carried by me.

It's not perfect, but it helps.

Eh, I try to not let small stuff bother me. Sometimes in the moment things feel like a big deal, I like to think will this matter tomorrow? Sometimes it's hard to get M out of the house so I give 1-2 reminders warnings to make sure we are synced up to prevent me from getting frustrated. Sometimes it just helps to have a little physical and mental space and take a quick walk or run an errand alone.

Yes, any type of Buddhist meditation or any meditation in general will help a lot.

This might sound small, but when DD is not using her patience I remind her to "use your patience and I'll try to use mine too." In a small way it removes me from the "person" and makes it more of a "process." It helps me remove for a moment and helps me remember I can choose to "use my patience."

I used to be really impatient. I've had a huge mental switch after having kids. I keep a little mantra going in my head encouraging myself to not get caught up in the moment because it will pass. It mostly helps, although my impatience got the best of me on Christmas Eve because of unmet expectations. It helps to work in a place where you see the worst things that happen to families and kids, because it reminds you to cherish your moments, even when things are messy or slow or kids are upset.

I have none. Have you always had patience or did you have to work on having it? I hate getting frustrated so easily around here - especially if I'm going to have 2 under 2 in 5 months. Any pointers on how I can be more patient are greatly appreciated.
