Your nursery is gorgeous!

The PPs all have great ideas on how to incorporate more Montessori style, so I have nothing to add :silly: Just wanted to tell you how gorgeous it is!

Sorry I'm so behind on replies...today was the day I finally cracked.

@swurlygurl: I'd be okay with it not being a strict Montessori nursery. Most of the furniture was gifted to us so if I could incorporate it into one of the two rooms that would be great.

@pui: Yes, safety! I looked for appropriate frames while I was at Target the other day and have the Command strips for attaching them to the walls. And I need a mobile for sure because when we visited the nursery the other day he couldn't take his eyes off the lion hanging from the ceiling.

@T.H.O.U.: I might do that for the time being; one room was supposed to become the playroom with storage for bigger things but "hiding" the dresser is a great idea for now!

@MrsMcD: They are from Young America - I bought the store samples but I think they've been discontinued!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: It does separate into two levels, and I can also remove the orange panels to make it completely open.

Do you have a kid size chair or bean bag you could put in place of the glider to make more of a "reading nook"?

Great nursery.

remove the glider. Add kid size/ friendly seating.

does the bookcase separate.? You could make it all one level. Hang graphic prints above it and the baby can use the top to balance and admire the pics.

add a mirror.

lower the mobile so baby can play with it from the ground.

Basically the whole point of a Montessori nursery is to make as much of the room as possible welcoming and accessible for the child, rather than the adult.

Some hallmarks of a Montessori nursery:

- Flood bed, so the child can get in and out of it himself
- Low shelves, so the child can reach his own belongings. Usually only as few simple toys and books out at a time.
- Low art, at eye level for the child.
- An "activity area" on the floor, usually with a mirror and a place to hang mobiles.
- "Beautiful simplicity", keep things as uncomplicated, organized and nice looking as possible.

I think the shelf you have would work well. The only concern with the dresser is it would be hard for a small child to open and they would be unable to reach the higher drawers. You could always use the dresser for now and switch to something with more open shelves for the child's clothing when they are reaching the age when you start encouraging him to dress himself.

Make sure you consider safety! Cover any outlets, make sure the floor is always kept very clean, keep anything dangerous out of reach, switch out any glass for acrylic, ect. Also, consider that he might crawl under the dresser or shelf and get wedged there, so perhaps consider removing their legs?.

Your original nursery is GORGEOUS!

You could keep that small table that's under the window, and use it to store toys and books that baby can access at anytime. It looks low enough.

Mattress on the floor, full length mirror attached sideways to the wall down low. Art hung down at baby's level.

That gorgeous rug can totally stay. :)

Would you be interested in a Montessori-inspired nursery so you could use everything except the crib? I don't think that having the dresser is technically Montessori approved (no idea though, I haven't done a ton of research) but if you incorporated other Montessori elements into the room.
I think those cubbies are a step in the right direction - putting toys and books on the bottom shelf to allow baby their own access. I think another big thing is art at eye-level to the baby, and a mirror that they can see while on on the floor (usually one of those cheap door mirrors turned sideways)

I don't have much experience with montessori nurseries but just wanted to say that nursery is GORGEOUS!

And I'm sorry about your HVAC system :( sucks big time to spend that much money on something that doesn't work.

We are having to switch rooms for our nursery because despite sinking $10k into our HVAC system recently our second floor is still sweltering, especially the nursery. Even with the AC running (a brand new unit in a dual unit/dual zone!) it was 80 degrees in there yesterday, while the room across the hall was 75. We're lucky to have a few spare rooms so we're just going to swap. DH is not thrilled about ripping out the nice closet system he installed, though.

In a moment of desperation I took the crib mattress and put it on the floor of the cooler room and realized I could just take the opportunity to do a more Montessori style nursery like I'd originally wanted. I don't know what we'd do with the original room and all the furniture, though! I'm including a photo of the original nursery to show you just how much furniture we have. Should we put any of it in there? And what do you think we should do with this room?

Or just forget it and move everything?
