I feel your pain! LO is a very very gassy baby.

It does start to improve around 6-8ish weeks when their little tummies start working better, but what worked for us in the meantime was Dr. Brown's bottles (LIFESAVER!), gripe water, and ALWAYS making sure he burps after a feeding (whether it takes 20+ minutes or more - we have found massaging the back gets burps out rather well too, not just the patting - also bouncing up and down if you don't have a spitty baby!)

Rubbing his back seemed to soothe him, but like pps have said, it got better with time. DH was always a better burper than me. He really got it out of LO.

Hang in there mama <3

B doesn't typically burp if we just pat him on the back either. I started bouncing him on my knee to burp him and it works most of the time. Maybe try some different burping methods to help get the bubbles out?

Also, I bought the Dr. Brown's formula pitcher for when I have to give him formula. It dissolves all the formula and when you pour it into the bottle there are no air bubbles. It seems to have helped with his gas as well.

Also, it might be at night that the air from the day has built up so it's more uncomfortable for her which is why you don't notice it as much during the day?

Same as above, move her legs, look into new bottles or even switching formula. WE were on Similac Sensitive and finally switched to Gerber Goodstart and it was night and day. We also switched from Medela bottles to Tommy Tippee and there was a huge different in gassiness since she didnt' seem to get as much air!

@Cherrybee: i know, that's what led me to run around to multiple stores at 9pm on more than one occasion to try and find different bottles/nipples. in the end, as i mentioned, nothing except time really made a difference, but man, you could have sold me a $100 bottle at that point if you told me that it reduced gas. i just felt like i had to do something! sigh. i know what you're going through.

@BabyBoecksMom: Very briefly but the screaming panics me and I pick her up again! I will try it for a while longer if you're all adamant it works!!

@Sweet T: We use pre-made formula anyway. We haven't braved the powder yet!!!

@edelweiss: Hmm, maybe. I'm reluctant to believe it's the formula or the bottles because it only happens in the evening/night, she's fine all day. But I am willing to try anything at this point!!!

Mylicon drops were the only thing that worked for us. My LO also had trouble with powdered formula. He could tolerate it every now and then but no for every bottle. We used ready to feed formula as much as possible and it really helped him.

We had better luck with gripe water than we did with the mylicon drops. Nothing was foolproof though and we had to endure until his digestive system matured a bit.

Bicycling legs, try burping her on your shoulder, and maybe try the colic hold. And putting LO in the ring sling always forced out a few burps.

i'm sorry this is so tough. we tried gas drops, gripe water, bicycle legs...it was horrible having LO wake up at 4am screaming, clearly in pain from gas. nothing really helped in our case except the passage of time.

perhaps there is a different formula that might help? or a different bottle? i'm not suggesting that any of these will magically fix the problem, but maybe they would help a bit. i'm sorry!

G had terrible gas the first couple weeks, and nothing helped. She seems to be growing out of it; she doesn't scream anymore with the gas. We also give gas drops and do tummy massage/bicycle her legs. So, in addition to everything you are doing, it may get better with time!

The mylicon drops weren't enough for my little guy, so we ended up with prescription gas drops. They work like a charm! I know some users here have had luck with a gadget called the Windi, which manually removes gas from the baby.

My poor 2 week old baby screams in pain every evening - and until about 2am. Her face goes bright red and she goes stiff as a board....

She doesn't burp after her bottles (of formula). We sit her up and slap her back repeatedly but burps very rarely come out. I think the little bubbles are getting into her intestines, where they need to come out as wind. We have tried infacol gas drops but they don't seem to be working. We swaddle, we have tried warm baths, tummy massage....

What can I do to offer her relief?? The lack of sleep is one thing - but I can't bear to see her in pain.
