We put LO in the corner of the couch or a chair a lot for support. We also used the boppy pillow around the back of him. I worked with him for a few weeks, and then one day he just started sitting for a few seconds at a time. Within a few days, it went from 5-10 seconds at a time up to about a minute. Before long, he was sitting up for 5-10 minutes at a time...sometimes longer. I officially considered him sitting up unassisted at about 4.5 months.

We put a boppy around the back of him once he got a little more stable.

One thing you can do is sit with them and help LO get started with like a tripod sit (their hands/arms supporting them in between their legs) They can use their arms to help them balance. It can seem slow at first, but they will get there as they gain core strength.

I don't think there is anything to learn - it's just a muscle development thing. You could try more tummy time, but honestly, it it just going to develop when it does.

I don't know! DH came home one Friday and said, "LO is going to be sitting by herself before the weekend is over." And he did it. I think he started on the bed. The squishyness helped her. I will say, though, by that time she was more than capable, but just wouldn't do it.

Pillow fort! I used to put pillows all around her and and if she flopped over it was fine.

i was so excited for both charlie and olive to sit up, but they both crawled before sitting up. there was nothing we could do really.... they kinda just figured it out on their own.
