LO reacted to the first two foods we gave her so we stuck with single food introduction for a few months. She's had some reactions since she started eating our food & restaurant food and they are much harder to pinpoint.

I stuck with it for a week or two and then just gave him whatever. Around 9 months he started puking all the time and it took a while to figure out it was a wheat intolerance. So DS went gluten free for a while, but he did grow out of it.

We were told to do the three day rule because LO has a dairy allergy and there's a family history of multiple food allergies (me). I tried, but honestly there are so few things he can eat without his reflux flaring that I just needed to hurry up and find something that worked for him. So I just check him on a daily basis. Nothing scary, then we just move on.

Same as some PP's. No family history of allergies and we did BLW, so excluding combination foods would have been really difficult. We just watched him closely the first time he had a new food, but definitely didn't isolate them.

We started w one food at a time, but our pediatrician actually told us to stop! Apparently new research suggests that's actually not necessary and it's actually better to expose babies to as much as possible as early as possible. He even suggested it's best to introduce potential allergens as early as we can -- egg, fish, nuts, etc. we do watch what lo eats in terms of not "real" foods and don't give her much if any salt or sugar

Didn't at all. Gave her whatever we were eating so that was a bunch of different things at once. Neither of us have any food allergies so she wasn't really at risk for any either. If there had been any issues we would have readjusted, but luckily that wasn't necessary!

It would take FOREVER if you really introduced one food at a time. Unless there's a reason to think there will be a reaction (like previous issue or family history), it's not a big deal. Our doctor gave us a simple list of "what to look for" in case of a reaction.

The only exception for us was a high allergy food (like peanuts). We did that on fruit (that we knew she was okay with), and when she didn't have a reaction, we were confident she was able to process it.

I didn't at all. I did try to pay more attention when I fed him something that was a common allergen for the first or second time. I didn't delay giving him any potential allergens either.

That said, he only ate once a day for a few weeks so there was plenty of time to observe a reaction before his next meal.

In the first month or so, we took it slowly since we started a lil early (5.5 months) and wanted to make sure we paid attention to any digestion issues (if any) through monitoring his dirty diapers, etc.

After that first month or so, we readily introduced new foods weekly.

@CakeLady: We did a combo. I started off with purees because I was scared of choking! But after a couple weeks I realised he was constantly staring at everything we ate and so one day I tried giving him a little piece of fish and he ate half my fish. So from then on we started to a combination of purees and finger foods!

I never really did BLW with large slices of things because it really scared me. So I would always cut things up into pieces I knew he could handle. Which maybe isn't the definition of BLW, but it really worked for us.

I do stick to it but mostly because 1) it's easy since we only give her produce mostly so far (she is MSPI so all the added ingredients and hidden soy of "normal" food is a problem) and 2) we've also discovered she has allergies or at least sensitivities to sweet potato and avocado, so we are on the lookout for other foods she has issues with.

@Greentea: Did you run into allergy issues?

We gave DS yogurt for the first (at the pediatrician's recommendation) on the same day that he started a new antibiotic for an ear infection. He got hives later that evening and the next morning. It was a stupid suggestion, because now we have NO idea what caused the hives - antibiotic, dairy, or the stomach virus he had.

We didn't. And we gave him peanut butter at 9 months. Some newer literature indicates that holding off on some foods might predispose to allergies, but I'm sure if E had a peanut allergy, he'd have it at 9 months and 12 months. He's had no problems except new onset pickiness!

I did it at first, like the first 4-5 foods. I did pay better attention when introducing things that were more allergy prone (berries, shellfish, egg) to introduce it separately so that I would know if she had a reaction to those specific things. And I waited til after a year for both kiddos to do anything with nuts in it!

With Lo1 I was really careful and waited 3-4 days with each food. He isn't allergic to anything. With LO2, we didn't really stick to any sort of pattern and she also does not seem to have any allergies, so we have been lucky. As for foods with multiple ingredients, aside from bread-type items, I home make most of what we eat, so it hasn't been difficult keeping track. I did wait for nuts until 1 year for both of them though.
