@mrs.bluehope: Have you looked into a mucous only method of charting? The Creighton and Billings methods of NFP rely only on mucous observations and can be used for TTC. You have to take a class/ learn from an instructor but it's something to look into. Creighton can also be helpful with some fertility problems if you have a doctor who knows it from what I've gathered (a napro doctor).

This happened to me big time last cycle - I kept getting patches of fertile CM and finally O'd CD36, which is really late for me (usually around CD19) - stress was a HUGE factor. DH and i were fighting constantly!!!

I think this would happen to me every month. I'd get my positive OPK on CD 14 but no temp rise. Then, a few days later, I'd get another positive OPK, this time followed by a temp rise. It was just as though my body tried to O, failed, and then tried again.

I have always wondered this myself. Because of my crazy work schedule temping has been near impossible so I only chart my OPKs and EWCM and also think I Ovulate but then in the TWW also worry that I never did, Wish there was an easier way to know for sure.

Unfortunately, you can't 100% pinpoint ovulation even with the best charting and opk's. You can come really close, but you're never really certain it has happened until after the fact due to the "false ovulation" you're asking about. It can be pretty common for some women to gear up for ovulation and then not ovulate for all kinds of reasons ranging from potential cycle problems to stress (I've had it happen where I've been under a lot of stress and then had delayed ovulation). From what I've seen hanging around sites like this one, it doesn't seem so common that it happens to everyone every other month, but it doesn't seem so uncommon either- especially if you've got a lot of stress or some kind of underlying illness or medical condition.

That happened to me the last two cycles. Positive OPK and /or EWCM right around 12-14DPO and I totallllly thought I'd O'd until my cycle went long and my temps showed that I likely O'd around cd21. So frustrating/expensive to keep checking opks!

I have it happen all the time. At least I think I do. I have very uneven cycles and would notice patches of EWCM that wasn't followed by a temp rise. Unfortunately, OPKs never really worked for me, so I don't have that info to back up my claim!

A lot of people site body building up to O, then it not happening around the boards when people have odd cycle symptoms. How common is that really? I'm one of those people that convinces myself I have whatever I am reading the symptoms for - so now I always freak out that all the signs point to O, but it might not have even happened. Thoughts?
