@miranlee: We nursed or gave him a bottle for all sleep until he was 3 months old. Then, we nursed him down just for bedtime until he was 6 months old and daycare could just put him down. Now, at 12 months old, he doesn't need any of those things to go down. He does still wake in the night and joins us in bed but still goes to bed fine with daddy. I think you just do what you need to do. We couldn't sleep train AND work full time.

@miranlee: Nope, his dad can put him down with a bottle at bedtime, and the nanny puts him down for naps with just rocking.

@Miranlee I hope you don't mind me jumping in here but I have found that even when mom nurses baby to sleep every time that I can still get a little one to sleep by following the same routine. Often they won't fall asleep drinking the bottle but will if I rock them afterwards (usually rocking means more standing and swaying but same principle!) Sometimes they get a little mad that they aren't being nursed but as long as they aren't on a bottle strike it usually is pretty quickly resolved by rocking/bouncing. I hope that helps!

@ohapostrophe: are you the only one who puts the baby down at night? I was worried that my nursing her to sleep every night would make it impossible for her to get to sleep with DH or a sitter giving her a bottle. I know every baby is different, but wondering what others' experiences are with this.

For whatever method you pick, consistency is a must if you want your LO to be a good sleeper in the long run!

For us consistency was key. If we weren't consistent it made the problem worse.

We do about half and half (nursing to sleep vs putting down sleepy but awake) and it works fine. We never had to hardcore sleep train though, the most he ever cried was maybe 8-10 minutes.

I love nursing him to sleep and I wouldn't want to give that up! Basically if he's done nursing (or if he's been nursing forever and I know it's been enough so I'M done nursing!) and still awake I just put him in his crib and he either rolls over and falls asleep or fusses for a few minutes and then falls asleep. I haven't noticed any difference in wakeups or length of sleep between the two methods so we are fine doing both at the same time :)

I think no matter what you do, consistency is key!
There's no problem with nursing her down.. I know lots of moms who do!

Zoey has been sleeping through the night for a few weeks now, but lately she falls asleep while nursing and will either stay asleep when I move her to the crib or wake up and we let her CIO. The longest she has CIO'd is 30 minutes but she usually avg. about 15 min.

I don't know if I'm doing more harm than good by being inconsistent. DH and I were discussing giving her a bottle instead of nursing to sleep moving forward and really committing to training, but truth be told, I like nursing her down and it's just so much easier to get her to sleep that way! Should we go for it or just be glad she's STTN or .....?

Babies are so precious and delicious .... But damn this stuff is hard!
