I have a 4 yo and a 14 month old.

I'd say it took me longer to recover with my second, but no real lasting side effects. I had some pelvic floor issues and a possible prolapse, but since I stopped nursing it has gotten much better. I didn't have any of that after my first. But, my second LO was also 9lbs 6oz, so, pretty big and hard to push out!

I have some tummy pouchiness but if I could work out more and ate better it would probably go away. I luckily didn't get stretch marks with either, I thought I would with my second since that seemed to be what I always heard.

I definitely have a mom pooch belly from excess skin. I have a short torso and long babies so the skin all the way up below my ribcage had to stretch to accommodate the babies and so it all sags down. And stretch marks all the way up to my ribcage. I'm definitely super out of shape because I had to take it easy during my 1st pregnancy due to complications and then never got a chance to really recover my strength before we got surprise pregnant with our second.

@Portboston: it definitely took me longer to recover the second time but I went straight to PT after my six week check and it's helped tremendously. I was lucky both times and had no tearing but with the second my ab muscles were wrecked, resulting in terrible back pain, and I had hypertonic pelvic muscles both times.
Big advocate of PT with a postpartum specialist!

@pachamama: oh wow. Thank goodness nothing was wrong! I guess it's better for them to be prepared just incase. My son was a little over 2 weeks early and they called in the pediatric team immediately after I delivered him but he had no issues. He was 7lbs 10oz so he would have been a porker if he stayed in another two weeks. I'm thankful he came a little early!

@Portboston: Seriously, people! haahah childbirth. What a trip. I came out unscathed FWIW, but my son was 5lb12oz and popped out in like 10 pushes. The "hemorrhage" team was called in; I thought it was for my son as he was 3 weeks early, but apparently it was for me as my midwife thought my cervix was not ready and would be a bloodbath. Again, no issues, just a 2nd degree tear and I wouldn't even have known that unless they told me.
That being said, I would have preferred some lasting physical trauma if it meant having a full term baby.

I am only ~8 months PP with my second but recovery was easier for me the second time. I had hemorrhoids while pregnant with my second but not after. Being pregnant with a toddler was rougher than having a newborn and a toddler. I was able to lose the weight I gained in approximately the same time as I did with my first.
I think it's harder to find time to pump and BF with my second because my toddler wants my attention. I have stuck with both though so far and it's gotten easier to manage.

mine los are 18 months apart so i feel like i started the second at a already compromised place. 3 months pp and i am struggling with no core strength and my pelvic floor is not what it once was. Oh and my feet are slightly bigger (but i think that has more to do with a summer pregnancy than with it being number 2). I have faith that I will be able to regain strength and tone with time and work, it feels like super slow going but I see progress. I wish we had a better conversation/system/understanding that "bouncing back" takes work, and knowledge and support. If you pee when you sneeze that shouldn't be your new normal. A pelvic floor PT can really help.

Honestly, no changes. My body is back to pre-pregnancy, my feet haven't grown, etc. I could probably benefit from some crunches to gain more muscle but I fit in all my old clothes fine.

@Portboston: So interesting what everyone said about their hair! I only have one but my hair is curlier! Feet and fingers about 1/4 to 1/2 size bigger and still 10 pounds to lose. But that last part is totally my fault! Thats it.

I probably had fewer issues after my second than my first. With my first, I had trouble with leaking urine whenever I sneezed or exercised. After the second, that's barely been a problem. I did get more stretch marks with the second but I also lost the weight from the second quicker.

@erinbaderin: I'm like you and grateful that I don't have any drastic physical differences post pregnancies. My left knee is a little weaker, but that most likely due to kneeling all the time to play. My pelvic bone is still a little sore, and I'm 6 months out pp.

It didn't. I bounced back a bit quicker after my first, but that's it really. There's no noticeable difference after my second. ( well that I remember, I'm 7 months into my third pregnancy.) Recovery was much quicker and easier after my second as well.

My LOs are 4 and 2 so I'm pretty far post partum but overall I would say little changes only. My feet are about a half size larger (but I get to rebuild my shoe collection so not really a bad thing;)) and my hair is a bit darker. With eating right and a good cardio workout routine my body is as it was pre babies.

I didn't have any big changes after any of my 3 pregnancies -- my eyesight got a little worse after my first, and my boobs were super tiny after wrapping up nursing my second (remains to be seen what happens after my third, but i'm not optimistic!). But I am definitely grateful that I managed to escape 3 labors & deliveries without any permanent issues!

I feel like I did not have many changes to my body after my first pregnancy, maybe my tummy was a bit fluffier but I feel good and like myself.

After my second pregnancy, I had like zero core strength and I look pregnant 19 months later. I still get sciatica flare-ups. I used to pee when I sneeze or cough hard. I still have a 2 finger gap in my abdominal muscle (diastisis recti) I've been doing pilates which i think is helping but I'm sure that my body is never going to feel like it used to. I also got stretch makes with my second and not with my first.

I'm on the fence about having a second. One of my reason for being hesitant is going through another pregnancy/labor/birth/nursing. While I do not have very many lasting issues from my first experience I do have a couple....my back is permanently screwed up from 26 hours of back labor and I constantly feel like I have to pee even if I know I do not! The peeing thing has gotten better over time but it's still there. I also have a small vaginal tear that never healed correctly so I have a permanent tear down there. I lovingly call it my flap 😑 But I feel fortunate those are the only things I have to deal with!!

How did a second pregnancy permanently change your body? I.e. Stretch marks, loose skin, bladder issues, abdominal issues, etc
