@sandy: I wish we'd just eat out more so we can each pick what we want! He is very understanding but I still feel bad!

My MIL had to cancel her plans and miss two days of work to watch DD while I was in the hospital for fluids and monitoring. Other than that, I've just had to push through. DH has been willing to help, but he usually isn't home in time to cook for DD, so she's had far more peanut butter sandwiches or grilled cheeses than I would like.

I would still cook chicken and pork while pregnant and then as soon as we were about to eat dinner, I'd look at my plate and realize I could not eat it, so I would put it right away on DH's plate. So he always got more meat for dinner, so that part he liked!

He was very supportive, though. He felt bad that I felt so sick. Early in the 1st trimester after nausea began, I told him of my worry about getting sick in the car driving to work, so he ordered like 50 puke bags from Amazon to put in my car. Sweet. :)

It's been tough for sure. I have a lot of guilt bc I can't stand to cook much, have no energy and just feel miserable. We eat out a lot right now. And I just kind of force myself to make a meal for LO but honestly we are eating a ton of crap right now. Like pizza once a week and a lot of take out or subway. My mom helps but sometimes I just can't stand what she brings over and I send it back home with her. I can't wait for the m/s to end!

My post disappeared!

If you have trouble with smells, you can cook food in the crockpot out on your patio or garage, as long as you have an outlet!

Oh also, I try to make crockpot meals that can do double duty. For example, I made all-meat chili the other night and DH can eat it plain, on hot dogs, on noodles as chili mac, etc. Or I make pulled pork with plain seasonings and he can eat half as carnitas in tacos or burritos, and then add BBQ sauce to the other half for sandwiches. Or you can make shredded chicken breasts the same way and turn half into tortilla soup (add broth, salsa, tomatoes), and the other half can be BBQ chicken sandwiches. You can also make a big pot of plain meat sauce, use half on pasta and then add chili seasonings and beans to make the other half chili for another day.

@Cole: I asked my SIL who's pregnant w/ her 2nd too, first trimester, with a 13 month old. I was like, "How do you function?!" She was like "I don't, but I have to, so somehow I just do it..." It's so sad!

@gingerbebe: I def love the way you kinda tier things so that there's always a bunch of different options!

@Cole: haha! That's what your husband is for! DH remembers what I went through and has promised to do the majority of the parenting for those 3 months (that includes feeding her, meal prep, packing daycare stuff).

@snowjewelz: I have only recently been able to eat dinner so we have been eating different things. Most days I need to eat at 4:30 or 5 and he doesn't get home until 7 and zofran has worn off by then. I just make sure to have his favorite easy things on hand and on the odd occasions where I have cooked for lunch I try to make enough for him to have my leftovers for dinner.

I like how @gingerbebe: is handling food though. I need to start making a few things ahead of time that we can mix and match. Honestly I should do that even when I am not feeling sick because we eat so much better then.

@Anagram: I really worry about a second pregnancy too and this one isn't even here yet. I don't have any idea how I could manage a toddler and feeling like this. I worry that my poor kid is going to be stuck eating junk food and watching tv for months.

I'm ALMOST over MS at 21.5 weeks. Its been so hard but DH has never once complained. We ate out a LOT the first few weeks but over time, I forced myself to cook once or twice a week because DH has a sensitive stomach. I basically cook just so DH would have meals/lunches to eat and then I eat whatever I want or can stomach.

My routine has generally been to cook one thing in the crockpot (like an easy chili or a curry) and grill/bake 2 kinds of meat at once (sausages and pre-marinated meats from the butcher are my best friends). I'll either bake some sweet potatoes or make a pot of rice on the side and have DH nuke himself some frozen mixed vegetables from Costco as a veg. That generally feeds him lunch and dinner all week. I stock up on muffins, granola bars, apples, baby carrots, and cereal at Costco and DH has that for breakfasts and snacks all week. We still eat out once or twice a week for dinner/date night.

@snowjewelz: I have no clue. I didn't care at all. He probably ate a lot of cereal, sandwiches, or went out to grab something alone. I was too busy being miserable lying in bed to care at all---as long as I couldn't smell it.

@spaniellove: I just feel so bad when I come home to a nice home cooked meal and I honestly just want to run the other way! Hmm, maybe I should just have some canned soup sitting around when I need to "sit out" for a meal, or two, or all of them...

@Anagram: So what did your DH eat?

It affected our family life dramatically last time. Now that we have LO, I'm not sure how I'll manage it when it's time to go for #2. I basically only laid in bed and moaned while I was home for 3.5 months or so. I couldn't stomach the smell of ANYTHING. Not only did I not cook, but I couldn't really allow my husband to cook either since we were in a 1 bedroom apartment and the smell would permeate the whole apartment. I wouldn't let him make coffee either. Or breathe on me. I hated our neighbors (because I could smell their awful cooking smells).

I couldn't go to the grocery store or anywhere that required any walking as walking made me even more nauseated. I think I embarassed my DH several times when I attempted to go to Target with him and ended up sitting on the floor, not able to walk any more without throwing up.

Yeah...not looking forward to going through that again. =(

DH had to start cooking for various reasons and we did have a few...incidents...because I just couldn't stand the smell or texture of something he made. I felt bad because I knew he didn't have much to offer after a day of work, and he just didn't have the ability to make the kinds of things I usually make. We had to start buying groceries more often to accommodate my changing cravings (more aversions than cravings), and there were nights when he ate something different than me. There were a lot of nights when I ate canned soup that had absolutely no smell.

But the good news is that it doesn't last forever!

Ugh, dramatically. I am 17 weeks and have cooked dinner twice in the last 12 weeks. I had to cut back on work significantly because my blood pressure keeps dropping and I black out, seeing as I am a nanny it is kind of a no no to pass out on the job... My husband has needed to fend for himself for meals but I have outlawed several things because of the smell- garlic and onions are major triggers. All in all this has not been fun. And the wasted food- I think I have thrown out more milk than I have consumed. Lots of produce has been pitched too. I now only buy what my husband can eat in two days and just keep going back to the store.

I feel bad for DH... He cooks almost every night but half the time I really don't want to eat what he made. And there's no telling what I like/dis-like till I pretty much see it/smell it. I don't want him to just wing it and eat crap along with me either!

Like now, I brought leftovers for lunch but I don't really think I can stomach it... But I don't want to waste food!
