We're not quite there yet, but we are getting there! I plan to take down the curtains (or maybe shorten them?) and figure out some way to lock down her closet doors a bit. We've already secured her changing table to the wall with a wall anchor and all the really heavy books are moved up to the top shelf of the book shelf where she can't reach (although when she learns how to climb they'll just leave her room). I need to figure out some way to secure the closet because she is obsessed with trying to open the trash can we use for wipes and so I'd like to put that in the closet and lock it somehow. Even with those changes I know she can(will?) open the dresser drawers, pull out all her clothes, and maybe pull over her end table (she's already done it lol)... but at least it is light. I'm not really that concerned about bumps and bruises because I feel like they are inevitable and I could drive myself crazy trying to prevent them and still fail. I'm just trying to think of ways to avoid her actually killing herself... sort of seems like the best I can hope for haha.

I am worried about the same things. C is just about 2, so I *think* she understands things a little bit more, and a few times when she's been fighting her crib we let her fall asleep in the big bed in her room, then move her back to the crib after she's asleep. But when we leave her to fall asleep we talk about how she has to stay in the bed and when she wakes up she has to call for mommy and daddy and wait for us to come get her, don't climb out on her own (it's a queen bed on a bed frame so not the easiest for her to climb).

Once she is completely in the bed, I know we have more to do. For your LO, do you think if he plays in the room more with supervision he might be less likely to be fascinated with knocking the stuff over and opening the drawers? I agree the sound machine could go on the floor and probably the humidifier. I'd move the lamp up since I know even I have knocked lamps over.

Can you put the humidifier on the floor, maybe sit it on a towel? That's what we did, we didn't have another safe place for it!

We used outlet covers and secured furniture to the wall but other than that we didn't do much. There is a lamp he could pull down but there wasn't much we could do about it. If he were wild and trying to knock it the down all the time I'd yet rid of it, but we didn't have those concerns.

DS is 19 months and I feel like any day he's going to figure out how to climb out of his crib. Every morning when I go in to get him, he swings his leg up onto the crib rail, like he's going to climb over. I think it's only a matter of time before he figures out how to actually do it.

His crib is convertible, so we can either take off the front entirely, or we can put up the toddler rail.

I'm worried about what we need to do to make it safe enough to give him freedom. In the room there's the crib, a small dresser, a nightstand and a power recliner. I will have DH secure the dresser to the wall and I will unplug the recliner. I'm mostly worried about what to do with the night stand though. It has a lamp, a sound machine and a humidifier on it. I'm afraid if we leave stuff on the nightstand he'll knock things off of it and break them, but we need them in the room. I could maybe put the lamp on one of his shelves, but I don't think the other things would fit. I'm also worried that he'll try to open and close the drawer in the night stand and hurt himself, either by knocking it over or closing his hand in the drawer.

Maybe I'm being silly, IDK. He's pretty accident prone though, so I don't know that I can be too careful.

So what would you do in this case? Or how did you prepare to give your toddler freedom in their room?
